                 MIMOSA LADY
by John Moorehouse
A25-1 longshot, the Paint filly Mimosa Lady stunned the field of Paints and Appaloosas to win the $40,000 Karen Utecht Memorial Stakes on Oct. 14 at Lone Star Park.
It marked the first win in stakes company for Mimosa Lady, a three-year-old filly home-bred by Dan and Kaye Jones. The Matt Whitekiller trainee logged her fourth win in her 11th career out, with all four victories coming this year.
Starting near the outside of the 10-horse field, Mimosa Lady broke well in second from the No. 9 hole underneath Francisco Giles. She ran a steady second at the first call and going into the stretch, then overtook Over The Shock to hit the wire
first by a head. The 350-yard trip took :17.340, generating a 104 speed index. She benefited from a 10 mph tailwind.
Mimosa Lady’s connections banked a $15,200 payday, which improved the filly’s cumulative bankroll to $46,998.
Another Whitekiller trainee, Over The Shock APHA (CRM Livewire-Dont Look Ethel QH) made a game run for second place for owner Robin Haggard. Francisco Calderon drew the riding assignment. RP Reckless Wire APHA (CRM Livewire-RP Miss Reckess Dash QH) hit the board in third for owner Jeff Adams and trainer Dee Keener. Cody Wainscott was aboard.
The remaining order of finish was Hold My Beer APHA (CRM Livewire-Irish Vendetta QH), Just Wishin APHA (Boknaai QH-Just Splashin), WB Stevie Nix APHA (CRM Livewire-Zoomin Moon), Secret Livewire APHA (CRM Livewire- Moonlight Who TB), WL Van Halen APHA (MHM Hotwire-CL Trap Queen), Capo Turnpike APHA (Capo De Capi QH-Flashy Turnpike), and Texas Magazeche APHA (Texas Magnum-Azes And Queens).

MOK 4 Racing’s Praying Monk was successful in his first career start at Lone Star Park, as the son of Im A Fancy PYC scored a 3/4-length victory in the
$35,000 Wrangler Stakes for 2-year-olds on Oct. 21. Praying Monk earned a career-best 92 speed index

A $24,000 purchase at last year’s Heritage Place Yearling Sale in Oklahoma City, the colt is out of
A Mine Of Our Own, a winning daughter of the stallion Prospect To The Top. His second dam,
the winning Wave Carver mare Maggie Redmond, produced Triple L Xpress APHA, the winner of this year’s PSBA American Paint Classic Futurity-G1 at Remington Park. Praying Monk traces back to his third dam, Rule The Skies, a stakes-winning and multiple graded stakes placed Rare Form mare. Raced in three states, including Oklahoma and Iowa, the colt has won two of five starts and has earned $33,889.
Nathan Murphy’s Sticky Lou Who (Big Lew-Sydney Lou Who) finished second. Ricky Ramirez rode the homebred filly for trainer Shawna Manriquez. Princess Chenoa (Hawkeye-Loose Play) ran third for her owner, Richard Hawkins. Luciano Duenez rode the gray filly for trainer Marc Jungers.

DAYCRUISER
by Michael Cusortelli
Facing stakes company for the first time, Joe W. Johnson’s Daycruiser won the $35,750 AQHA Youth Racing Experience Stakes at Lone Star Park
on Oct. 21.
Daycruiser covered 870 yards in :46.309, and
his margin of victory was 3-lengths from Hi High Hopes. Bobby Dow rode the 5-year-old son of the Favorite Trick TB stallion Favorite Cartel for trainer James Gonzales III.
Daycruiser was coming off of a wire-to-wire 4 3/4-length win in an 870-yard non-winners-of-three allowance race at Lone Star Park on Sept. 28. The sorrel gelding was bred in California by Cade Burns, and he sold for $32,000 at the 2019 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale.
Daycruiser is out of Sereni Tea Rose, a daughter
of 1987 World Champion First Down Dash. His
second dam, the Mr Jess Perry mare St Pats Tea, won two graded stakes in 2001, including the $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Derby-RG2 at Fair Grounds.
Raced in two states, including New Mexico, Daycruiser has won four of 15 starts -- including four of 10 at the 870-yard distance -- and the $18,590 winner’s share of the purse from his first career stakes score increased his bankroll to $72,105, of which $49,495 has been pocketed from six races this season.
Hi High Hopes (Favorite Cartel- Brighterthanthesun) pocketed the $8,223 runner-up share of the purse for his owner Cole M. Clinger. Ricky Ramirez rode the 5-year-old stallion for trainer Brad Bolen. El Bee Dee (A Dashing Valentine-El
