Firecracker Derby-G3
TRUMP MY RECORD
by John Moorehouse
Trump My Record, the reigning Champion 2-Year-Old Gelding, maintained his success- ful ways by winning the $200,510 Firecracker Derby-G3 by daylight at Delta Downs on Aug. 15.
Given his past record and his status atop the qualifying ladder for the derby, it should come as no surprise that Trump My Record was the overwhelming favorite; he went off at post time at 2-5 odds. The gelding got bumped coming out of 4-post by Mr Tereso. The impact knocked Trump My Record sideways and put him more than 100 yards behind Mr Tereso, who was leading at the time. With jockey Eddie Sanchez urging him on, Trump My Record came flying and was running a close second by the time he reached the stretch. Trump My Record showed that championship form late, chasing down Mr Tereso—who ulti- mately got disqualified—and hitting the finish line with a 1-length margin of victory.
The outstanding sophomore gelding has made trips to the winner’s circle a regularity. This marked his 11th victory in 13 lifetime outs and improved his record to 3-0 in 2020. The
$100,255 payday for the derby win was another big boost to his lifetime bankroll, which now stands at $901,392.
Trump My Record now
holds four career stakes
wins. As a two-year-old, he
captured three futurities: the
Texas Classic-G1 at Lone
Star, the Sam Houston-G2,
and the Harrah’s-G3 at
Louisiana Downs. Those
three victories helped propel
Trump My Record to become the AQHA Champion 2-Year-Old Gelding. Trump My Record extended his winning streak to five consecutive races, dating back to his victorious effort in a trial for the Texas Classic Futurity.
Gilbert Pacheco III owns Trump My Record, who is trained by Jose Sanchez III. Fulton Quien Sabe Ranches LP bred both Trump My Record and his dam, Breck N Records. A 2012 mare owned by Victor Diaz, Breck N Records was lightly raced. She has
produced two foals—both of them starters.
The DQ of Mr Tereso ele- vated Clever Seis Cartel into second place. Tony Doughtie owns Clever Seis Cartel (Tres Seis-Cash Cartel), a Kenneth Roberts Sr. trainee who had David Alvarez in the irons.
A Game Jess (Game Patriot-Jess Caroline) officially finished third for owner Julio Cesar Rodriguez.
Fernando Lopez trains the gelding, and Jose Rodriguez drew the riding assignment.
Rounding out the official order of finish, Agavero Cartel (The Louisiana Cartel-Shakin N Stuff) was fourth, followed by Juanells Fireball (Highest Fire-Doyles Dashing Star), Fly The Eagle (I See Visions-Grinch), Mr Tereso (Man Who Wouldbe King-My Cold Corona) and I Am Valiant (Valiant Hero-Icy Valentine). Wagons Dash (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Breitling Time), who got tangled at the start and lost his rider.
