SHEZA FREIGHTTRAIN T
by Michael Compton
Patrick Richardson’s Sheza Freighttrain T was the 7th-fastest qualifier for the $329,410 Lassie Futurity at Delta Downs on July 3 after
stumbling in her trial dash, but she steamrolled her rivals in the 330-yard finals, winning the first stakes race of her young career.
Ridden by Rolando Pina, Sheza Freighttrain T broke in after the start but raced just off the early leader RF Runaway Duck. She collared that one and forged clear, opening a 1/2-length on the field. She dueled the length of the lane and held sway in the final stages to score by a head over One Sweet Filly and jockey Antonio Perez. Sheza Freighttrain T ran the distance over a sloppy track in :16.631 for a 94 speed index.
Trained by Eric Long, Sheza Freighttrain T is now a winner in 3 of 4 starts. She broke her maiden on debut in February, qualifying for the $315,000 Mardi Gras Futurity-RG2
in March, where she suffered her only defeat, finishing second in the main event, beaten just a neck for it all in a determined effort. The $164,705 winner’s share of the Lassie Futurity purse increased her earnings to $227,884.
“She had me a little worried in the trial, because she stumbled going toward the gap after the start,” said Richardson. “It kind of shocked me she was able to overcome the chal- lenges and get up and win the race.”
“She came back good despite everything,” he added. “She got a little hot
in the paddock in the Lassie, and you never know how they are going to react to breaking from the 1-hole, but I couldn’t have asked for a better ending. She has a really big heart.”

Freighttrain T is her first starter from four foals. The filly was bought by Richardson for $50,000 at the 2019 Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders’ Association Yearling Sale.
“I felt like she was going to be great when I saw her at the sale,” Richardson said. “I haven’t bought many at the sale, and I don’t normally buy fillies. She just had that look that she was going to be a good one. She was stunning. I liked everything about her. I liked her attitude, her conformation. And we knew she would catch on quickly. She showed her speed and tal- ent early in some schooling races. We knew she had some speed, but I was not sure if distances would hurt her. The other night, going 330 was no problem. She’s special.”
Runner-up One Sweet Filly made the winner work, dueling through the lane
and just missing. The 2-time winner is a homebred for J & J Stables LLC and trained by Jose Carrizales. She won her Mardi Gras Futurity trial and was 5th in the finals before returning to annex her trial heat for the Lassie by a domi- nating 1 1/2-lengths.
Fastest qualifier Ms Runaway Presence was bumped at the start
and rallied strongly to finish 3rd under Noe Castaneda. She captured her first start in the June 12 trials for owner Douglas O. Traylor & trainer Kenneth Roberts Sr. Ms Runaway Presence was a $27,000 LQHBA Yearling Sale graduate.
Followed by Jessa Louisiana Dash (Heza Fast Dash-Eyejesslovelouisiana), RF Runaway Duck (Sir Runaway Dash-Miss Delta Duck), Sheza Zoomin Memory (Zoomin for Bux- Leave Her Memories), Jess Her Dream
(Jess Louisiana Blue-In His Dreams), JJ Freighttrain (Freighttrain B-FMJ Mouse Tale), Jessaprimadonna (One Sweet Jess-Favorite Primadonna) and Tees Snowlady (Tee Cos- Game Snowlady).
