Fear The Dragon, who was seeking a third consecutive win after rat- tling off back-to-back scores at Fair Meadows for trainer Jose Villafranco, is owned by Jose Espinoza and was bred in California by Rafter W Stables. Espinoza acquired the colt for $37,000 at the Heritage Place Yearling Sale.
Jockey David Brown piloted MH Apollitical Spy (Apollitical Blood-Corona Spy) for owner and breeder Mary Hainline and trainer Eddie Willis. Bred in Oklahoma, the bay gelding broke his maiden in his July 10 trial, winning by a length and leading virtually start to finish.
