A PAINTED DYNASTY
by John Moorehouse
APainted Dynasty was making his 16th career out in the $57,035 Adequan Derby Challenge at Retama Park on July 24, and won the race to claim his first-ever stakes victory.
After winning his Adequan trial and posting the second-quickest qualifying time on July 3, A Painted Dynasty would not be denied in the derby final. Starting off the pace after breaking tardy from the 7-post, the colt was fifth going into the stretch and then came flying, surging to the front of the field and hitting the wire first by a 1/2-length margin.
Alonso Neri trains A Painted Dynasty, who finished the 400-yard trip in :19.890 for a 96 speed index. Victor Urieta Jr. was aboard for owner David Gutierrez. The win produced a $26,236 payday that increased the colt’s cumulative bankroll to $220,644.
Notching his sixth overall win, A Painted Dynasty already had an impressive record and bank- roll. He qualified for multiple graded stakes races, including this year’s Heritage Place Derby-G2.
The Mixer Ranch bred A Painted Dynasty out of unraced Third Painted Sign. She has produced 100% money earners from four starters.

JESS A SATIN FLASH
by Danny Camp
Jess A Satin Flash was smooth and slick in the running of the $50,000 Zia Handicap at Ruidoso Downs on July 25, which marked his first stakes win. The gelding stepped away from the 2-post in
7th position and didn’t seem too concerned. Enter first time rider Adrian Ramos, who impressed the urgency of the situation to his mount.
Owned by Bertha Irigoyen, Jess A Satin Flash showed grit and determination to get his head in front at the wire at the end of the 400 yards sprint over a muddy (sealed) track, stopping the clock in :19.948, which was good for an 88 speed index.
Trained by Rene Saucedo, Jess A Satin Flash secured the first place check worth $30,000, boost- ing his total bankroll to $184,572.
Mike Abraham bred Jess A Satin Flash out of winner Jess Satin, who finished third in the Ruidoso Juvenile Invitational and was a finalist in the All American Futurity-G1. She has produced 100% money earners from seven starters, including Zia Futurity-RG1 winner Jess A Chicks. Jess A Satin Flash is her second stakes winner.
No Mires A La Luna (First Moonflash-Don’t Looke Ethel) overcame a generic start to secure second place for owners David Valdez and Byron Woodard. The Clinton Crawford trainee had James Flores handling the reins. Daddys Wine (Big Daddy Cartel-Fine Wines) and jockey Maureo Salcedo earned the third place check for owner El Paraiso Racing Stables LLC and trainer Martin Orona Sr..
