The photo on page 139 shows Vals Fortune winning the 2003 Mardi Gras Futurity-RG2. That same year, Vals Fortune (Dashing Val- Somthinlikabreeze, Six Fortunes) won five additional Graded stakes and set three New Track Records. He earned over $700,000 in 2003 and won 10 of 11 starts before being named AQHA Champion Two Year Old and Champion Two-Year-Old Gelding. He continued to race an additional two seasons, winning 20 of 23 starts and earning $1,111,591 with 15 total stakes victories (all but two were graded events) and scoring three more New Track Records. Vals Fortune was also named 2004 East Hi-Point Three-Year-Old Gelding and earned Superior Race Horse honors. Vals Fortune was bred by JoBaya Foreman and Joseph B. Irvine. He was purchased for $20,000 by Teddy Abrams, Jr., who campaigned him under trainer Heath Taylor in his two- and three-year-old seasons. Vals Fortune was briefly owned and raced by Eduardo Carrasco and is currently owned by Tracy Taylor.
Vals Fortune scored 10 consecutive victories as a two year old at five distances from 300- to 440-yards. He was a hard-knocking, consistent, and willing runner.
This year’s $60,000 Vals Fortune Stakes-RG2 was held at Delta Downs on June 6 and was won by Open Me A Corona.
