The Championship at Sunland Park-G1

Danjer, the reigning AQHA Racing World Champion, brought the curtain down on a sensational 2022 season with
an authoritative victory in the $350,000 Championship at Sunland Park Stakes-G1 at Sunland Park on Dec. 31.
Ridden back by James Flores, who was aboard the classy 6-year-old multi-millionaire for his runner-up effort in the Champion of Champions-G1 at Los Alamitos on Dec. 10, Danjer raced in second position early in the 440-yard test.
He simply exploded late and defeated multiple Grade 1 winner and narrow race favorite KJ Desparado by a 3/4-length in the end. Danjer stopped the timer in the fast time of :20.620. The final clocking earned a speed index of 120. The time was the second-fastest 440 yards ever run by a Quarter Horse, just ticks away from First Moonflash’s 2009 Track and World Record of :20.274.
