RGS Gold Wagon captured the initial stakes victory of his career in the finals of the $305,960 Evangeline Downs Futurity held at
Evangeline Downs on Dec. 16.
The gelding stepped away from the
3-post with jockey Edgar Mata aboard. They got the first call and Edgar supplied plenty of hustle and encouragement.
That helped them get a 1/2-length on the field by the first stretch, and then they
had a 1-length lead by mid-stretch. They overcame a late surge from Delight Interest, and they crossed the line with a 1/2-length margin of victory, leading at every call enroute to the finish line.
They stopped the clock at :19.435 to earn a 100 speed index. The gelding also earned the first place check worth $152,980, which ups his total bankroll to $227,850.
His race record now stands at four wins out of eleven career starts. RGS Gold
