oalition led at every call enroute to the finish
in the $25,000 Dashingly Handicap at Los Alamitos on Jan. 1.
Koalition got a new jockey at Los Alamitos, Jose Nicasio. They prepped for the Dashingly by winning an allowance race on Dec. 17. Over a sloppy track in the 350-yard stakes, Koalition broke well from the 7-post and led throughout, scoring by 3/4-lengths. Stopping the clock in :17.446, she earned a 98 speed index. The $13,750 winner’s share of the purse increased her earnings to $86,226.
This was her third consecutive win, including two prior allowance races. Before heading to Los Alamitos, Koalition had qualified for several major races only to encounter bad luck in the finals. Heath Taylor trains Koalition for owner/breeder Bobby Cox.
Cox bred Koalition in Texas from Nellie Delaney, who won the 2013 Southern California Derby-G1, 2014 Los Alamitos Winter Championship-G1 and 2014 Los Alamitos Distaff Challenge-G3. She has produced five winners from nine starters, including stakes-placed Chocolate Divinity and Precysion.
