BILEVE
by John Moorehouse
Foaled in Oklahoma, Bileve made her first-ever trip to Louisiana a lucrative one for her connec- tions. The five-year-old mare outdueled pre-race
favorite Fast N Famous Eagle to win the $15,000 Swift Stakes at Louisiana Downs on Jan. 16, which also marked her first-ever victory in stakes company.
Bileve was coming off a layoff of approximately 10 weeks since her win in a Nov. 2 allowance at Lone Star Park and didn’t show any signs of rust. She made a sharp break from the outside gate in a 7-horse field, led by a head at the first call, and opened up a 1/2-length advantage as she entered the stretch. Fast N Famous Eagle made a bid to snag the win, but Bileve beat her rival to the wire by a neck.
Xavier Alonzo trains Bileve, who finished her 350-yard trip in :17.671, logging a 96 speed index. Edgar Ibarra drew the riding assignment.
Owned by Fernando Beltran Rodriguez, Bileve logged her fifth win in 20 career starts. The $9,000 payday pushed her lifetime earnings to the cusp of $50,000 at $48,063.
Brad Hart bred Bileve out of lightly raced Dashin Rosie Cheeks. She has produced 100% money earners from seven starters, including Chalockee, who was third in the 2009 Louisiana Bred Laddie Futurity-RG2. Bileve is her first stakes winner and top money earner.
Fast N Famous Eagle (One Famous Eagle-One Fast Kisser) and Everardo Rodriguez finished second by a nose for owner/trainer Joe Davis.
Sunset Run (FDD Dynasty-Summer Love Song) hit the board in third for owner Jose Alfonso Ramos. The Jesse Rodriguez, Jr. trainee had Jorge Linares up.
Sixes Flash (Streakin Sixes-Viborita), WRS Quick Jess (One Sweet Jess-WRS Quick Sister), Mariachy King (Chief Corona-Lil Prairie Maid) and One Sweet Merlot (One Sweet Jess- Onemoreglassofwine) completed the field.
Cypress Handicap
WELL GOOD
by Tracy Gantz
An electrical malfunction at Los Alamitos forced the postponement of the $25,000 Cypress Handicap from Jan. 18 to 26. Four of the six initially entered came back for the rescheduled race, along with two newcomers. One of those newcomers, Well Good, won the event.
Favored Twisted Sifter quickly forged to the front after the gate opened, followed by Scoopie Jess and Well Good. With Vinnie Bednar in the saddle, Well Good overtook those two rivals to win by a head.
The bay gelding completed the 350 yards in :17.568, posting a career-best 96 speed index.
Scott Willoughby trains Well Good for breeder/ owner Dr. Ed Allred. Well Good was winning his first stakes, having run second in the 2018 California Breeders’ 550 Sophomore Stakes and third in the 2017 Sgt Pepper Feature Handicap. He was also a finalist in the 2017 Southern California Derby-G2.
The $13,750 winner’s share of the Cypress Handicap purse boosted Well Good’s total lifetime earnings to $84,579. He now has a race record of 26-4(1)-13(1)-4(1).
Allred bred Well Good in out of his homebred 2-time winning mare How Good, a finalist in three Graded stakes races. The mare has produced 100% winners from eight starters, including 2-time stakes winner and top earner Well And Good. Well Good is the second stakes winner in the brood.
Twisted Sifter (FDD Dynasty-Bye Bye Baby Goodbye) was second under Jonathan Roman for owner Ronnie Brooks Keller and trainer Roman Figueroa.
Scoopie Jess (One Sweet Jess-The Rose Princess) and Eduardo Nicasio were third for owner Scoopie Inc. Corporation and trainer Jose Hernandez Jr.
Apollitical Wagon (Apollitical Jess-Wagon Her Tail), JD Wagon Boss (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Elly Mae) and Jazzy Icon (Texas Icon-Icebreaker) com- pleted the order of finish.
Barbra B Handicap
RUNRAGINGRHINORUN
by Tracy Gantz
Run Raging Rhino Run is special to owner Dan Wilson, not only because he became the owner’s first stakes winner, but also because Wilson’s mother,
Esther, raised Run Raging Rhino Run as an orphan foal. The gelding notched the stakes win in the $20,000 Barbra B Handicap at Los Alamitos on Jan. 13.
Fifth in last year’s Barbra B Handicap at Los Alamitos, Run Raging Rhino Run improved tremen- dously this year. Ridden by Minor Arana, he broke sharply and quickly and went to the lead despite bumping at the start. Though headed midway through the 550 yards, he came back on to prevail by 1 1/4-lengths in :26.900 for a 112 speed index, which was hand-timed.
Felix Gonzalez trains Run Raging Rhino
Run, who also ran second in the 2018 Snowbound Superstar Handicap. The $11,000 winner’s share of this purse boosted his total earnings to $58,779.
W G Racing bred the gelding out of 2-time winner Love That Six, who was second in the Pot O’Gold Futurity and a finalist in the Northwest Juvenile Challenge-G3. She has produced 100% money earners from five starters, including 3-time winner Minya. Run Raging Rhino Run is her first stakes winner and top earner.
Carolyn and Ralph Fales’ homebred Mickey Ward (FDD Dynasty-A Mere Formality) finished second under jockey Jesus Ayala. The Fales’ son, Matthew, trains the 8-year-old gelding.
Eduardo Nicasio piloted Joe Legacy (Brookstone Bay-A Diamond Legacy) to third for owner Greg Torgerson and trainer Jose Hernandez Jr.
Completing the field were Newport Coaster (TR Dasher-Wave Babe), Go Cash Stevie B (Dashair-LDS Good Goin Gracie), A Mere Icon (Texas Icon-A Mere Formality), Dustys Classy Dash (Looking For Chicks-Classy Mama) and GT Runaway Date (Sir Runaway Dash-GT Toasted Date).
