Hot Cash 123 just keeps producing Champions. Not only is she the dam of Quarter Horse World Champion Cold Cash 123 and Paint World Champion I Do One Two Three, she has now added 2018 Champion 2-Year-Old Colt Flying Cowboy 123.
Carolyn Bay bred Flying Cowboy 123 in Michigan. She and her late husband, Walter, bred and raced Cold Cash 123 and I Do One Two Three in the name of T Bill Stables Inc. Marty Powers sold Flying Cowboy 123 at the 2017 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, where Paragon Farms LLC purchased him for $100,000.
Tommy Lipar of Paragon Farms credited trainer Blane Wood with Flying Cowboy 123’s success.
“He bought the horse; he trained the horse; and he got us where we needed to be,” Lipar said.
Flying Cowboy 123 raced greenly in his debut, his trial for the Ruidoso Futurity-G1, finishing eighth. But he learned quickly.
“We were excited about the colt from the beginning,” said Lipar.
Flying Cowboy 123 won his trial the Rainbow Futurity-G1. In the final, he broke slowly, but made up enough ground to grab third, later moved up to second upon a disqualification. He wouldn’t lose for the rest of the year.
To finish up the Ruidoso meet, Flying Cowboy 123 won his trial for the All American Futurity-G1. He made it look easy with a 1/2-length triumph, but unfortunately his time didn’t qualify him for the final.
Wood took him to Lone Star Park for the Texas Classic Futurity-G1, a race Paragon Farms won two years previously with High Plains Perry, trained by Wood’s son, Trey.
With Ricky Ramirez aboard in the trial, Flying Cowboy 123 stormed home in :19.607 for 400 yards to qualify the fastest. In the final, again under Ramirez, he broke in fourth and overhauled longshot Eagles Fly Higher and favored Danjer to win by a head in :19.692.
“He caught some hard luck at Ruidoso in some trial heats,” said Wood. “He’s run some good races and it was his turn.”
The Texas Classic brought Flying Cowboy 123’s earnings to $644,423 and secured him 2018 Championship horses.
Flying Cowboy wins his Texas Classic Futurity Trial.
