                                Anselmo Aguilar Payan Classic
ONE SWEET FERRARI
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
In the calendar of 2017 stakes races, this stakes was introduced for the first time to recognize breeder and horseman Dr. Anselmo Aguilar
Payán who in recent years has excelled in pro- ducing some of the best runners and winners of stakes and championships at the Hipódromo de las Americas. This he carries out in his Cuadra La Presita, located in Culiacán, Sinaloa, in addition to his breeding operation in the United States known as La Presita LLC.
The condition for this race was “for three- year-olds and older born in Mexico,” whose owners paid an enrollment of $33,000 pesos (approximately US $1,830), the main part
of that which went to the purse of $381,700 pesos (approximately US $21,172) to be run at 350 yards.
The race was the second of the three stakes contested on July 2 over the muddy track. Nine individuals were registered, several of them with remarkable performance in high level races emphasized by N Sure, RD Native, Cartel Jess and Ferdy Ruby, with RD Native being the greater preference for the public odds of winning the race. At the start, however, she
was hindered by Cartel Jess (#5), drifted inwards and could not recover in the race. While this was happening and the others settled on the track, fastened to the inner rail and speeding forward was the sorrel One Sweet Ferrari (#1), devouring yards with agility and escaping
the threat of the dangerous
Ferdy Ruby (#6), who came
in 1/2-length behind when
crossing the finish line. Moments later it was reported that the race time was :17.47 for a speed index of 91.
Little do we see Gonzalo Castillo riding at the Hipodromo de las Americas, but he was aboard One Sweet Ferrari and gave a pleas- ant surprise to the public, especially to those who collected more than 17 pesos for each bet to the winner. One Sweet Ferrari is a 6-year- old sorrel colt bred by the Jiménez Jiménez Hermanos, owners of the stallion Ferrari Carano and the mare One Sweet Check (by
Check Him Out). Currently, One Sweet Ferrari is owned by Cuadra Morán and he was saddled by trainer Victor Hugo Ramirez Moreno.
One Sweet Ferrari has had only 12 outs at the racetrack, obtaining with this race his fourth triumph. His victories include the Francisco Pasquel Classic and now the Anselmo Aguilar Payan. He also came second in the 2013 Garañones
Futurity Consolación. With this victory, his earnings account increases by $229,020 pesos (approximately $ 12,704 US).
Dr. Anselmo Aguilar Payán was repre- sented by Arturo Castro during the award in the winner’s circle.
Ferdy Ruby (Tres Ruby-Super Fer TB) was left with second place, supported by Alejandro Gómez. The winner of the Mexican Breeders Derby in 2016, Ferdy Ruby races under the name of Cuadra El Capricho de Las Águilas for trainer Victor Hugo Ramirez Moreno.
