Garanones Futurity Consolation
CLASIC CHIC
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
The Garanones Futurity Consolation was as much anticipated as the finals were due to the good level shown by the qualifiers during the trials. The :15.332 of Clasic Chic was the best mark in this category, after she won her race by 3-lengths on June 25, making her
the ideal candidate to take the winner’s share of the $285,175 pesos ($16,703 US approxi- mately) purse assigned for this test.
A light rain that was present minutes before and during the race did not alter the condition of the fast track.
They all came out gallant and spirited to parade before the public while the official announcer made the announcements.
They took their starting positions in the gates in search of triumph. Immediately,
the grey filly Clasic Chic (#3) was noticed, who, under the command of Paul Osvaldo Rodriguez, led the way for the others and crossed the wire at 300 yards in a respectable :15.04 for a 103 speed index, the best time for this futurity. Her closest pursuer, 1 1/4-lengths behind, was Chiris The Breez.
Clasic Chic was bred in Mexico by Everardo Múzquiz Elguezábal, owner of the stallion Sambaso Dancer and the mare Ziplock Chick (by Chicks Beduino). The filly was con- signed to the Yearling Selecta Auction, where
she was quoted at $350,000 pesos ($19,071 US). She is owned by Cuadra Avar, for which she has run five times, with three firsts and two thirds. She was saddled by trainer Ricardo Razo Gómez.
For this victory, $142,587 pesos (approximately $8,036
US) was added to the earn-
ings of Clasic Chic. She is a strong contender to be in the finals of the Selecta Auction Futurity, to be held in September.
Chiris The Breez (Chiris Corona-Call Me The Breez) took second under José Manuel Cisneros. He was bred by Félix Bañuelos, owner of Cuadra López, and trained by Epifanio Carrasco Sandoval.
Third went to Taliban First (Allens Cash-Natalia First) under the command of Yair Daniel Báez Soto. The colt was bred by Benjamín Murillo Camargo, is owned by Cuadra El Forastero and was saddled by Julio de Jesús Valencia Hernández.
Followed by Oceans Horse (Sea Horse Corona–Ocean Of Bliss), One Flower (Senior Solo–Shimmer Time), Hippy Dashin Horse (Sea Horse Corona–Happy Dashin), Corona
Dolls Royal (Chiris Corona– Dolls Royal), Toles Power (Four Six Power–Toles) & Special Catalino (Special First Prize–Catalina Six).
