  EFFORT N RESULTS
Making just the fourth start of his sopho- more season, Terry B. Adams’ Effort N Results rallied to win the Sept. 5, 1-mile Casino at The Downs Derby-R for New Mexico-bred Thoroughbreds at Albuquerque Downs.
Effort N Results covered his 8-furlong
trip in 1:37.98 after closing on the fractions
of :23.39, :46.47, and 1:11.08 set by paceset- ter West Dawn. Miguel Fuentes Jr. rode the homebred son of Shame On Charlie for trainer Joel Marr.
Effort N Results was stretching out
in distance off of his second-place finish,
2 1/2-lengths behind winner Cerveza, in
the 5 1/2-furlong, $50,000 Road Runner Handicap-R at Ruidoso Downs on July 26. The gelding is one of 18 winners from 22 starters by Shame On Charlie, a full brother to Champion filly Indian Blessing.
Shame On Charlie has sired four black- type stakes winners and the earners of more than $1.1 million from five crops, including 2020 Sierra Starlet Handicap-R winner Tight Fittin Jeans and multiple stakes winner Shame On Powers.
Effort N Results is also the first starter out of Happy N Harmony, a winning daughter by
Desert God and the runner-up in the ‘14 New Mexico Breeders’ Oaks-R at Sunland Park. His second dam, the Fort Chaffee mare Freeze Em Out, ran 3rd in the 2002 Kachina Stakes at Ruidoso Downs.
Effort N Results’ third dam, the win-
ning Catalpa Lane mare Right Lane Please, produced five winners from eight starters, including Nuclear Assembly, a half-brother to Freeze Em Out who won two stakes in Texas and Louisiana in ‘01, including the $168,700 Texas Thoroughbred Association Futurity-R at Lone Star Park.
Effort N Results has won three of six races, all in New Mexico, and the $60,000 win- ner’s share of the Casino at The Downs Derby purse pushed his bankroll to $161,860, of which $143,060 has been earned this season. The gelding’s two stakes victories include an off-the-pace 3/4-length score in the 1-mile, $100,000 Red Hedeman Mile-R at Sunland Park on Feb. 23.
Effort N Results was sent to post as the
5-2 second choice in the full field of 10 and returned a $7.20 win mutuel. Evacuee ran second behind Effort N Results. Charlie Comanch, Ancient Land, Winnies Own, Arch
City, West Dawn, Cerveza, Lariat, and Manoso completed the order of finish.
Evacuee completed a $40 ($2) exacta and banked the $20,000 runner-up share of the purse for owner B4 Farms LLC. A dark bay or brown son of the Pulpit stallion Abstraction, the gelding has pocketed $173,719 from 10 races, and his two wins include a neck victory in last year’s 6-furlong, $197,000 New Mexico State Fair Futurity-R at Albuquerque Downs.
Charlie Comanch, a 50-1 longshot, rounded out a $337 ($1) trifecta dividend. The home- bred Shame On Charlie gelding has earned $35,070 for his owner, James McLain.
