THE DOWNS AT ALBUQUERQUE
  Carlos Salazar Stakes (R)
WALTZING ATTILA & FLIGHT SONG
Waltzing Attila has won 9 of 22 starts and has earned $431,863, and three of her five career stakes victories have come this year. Flight Song has won six of 15 outs, and her three stakes wins include last year’s New Mexico Cup Oaks Championship-R at Zia Park. Flight Song has banked $228,223.
Let It Roll finished third, a neck behind the winners. Count Them Again, Beautiful Bounty, Orogrande, I’m A Dancin Who, Sexy Bikini Model, Time Is Precious, Ballinouttacontrol, and Hennessy Express completed the order of finish.
Let It Roll earned $10,000 for her owner, B4 Farms LLC. The filly has earned $217,868 and her three wins include a vic- tory in last years Carlos Salazar Stakes.
The Carlos Salazar Stakes honors the memory of the late longtime sports editor of the Albuquerque Tribune. Salazar was inducted into the New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame in 1986.
The photo finish camera at Albuquerque Downs couldn’t separate Waltzing Attila and Flight Song at the wire, as the two dis- taffers finished in a dead heat for the
win in the Aug. 22, $100,000 Carlos Salazar Stakes-R for New Mexico-bred fillies
and mares.
Waltzing Attila and Flight Song both covered their 6 1/2-furlong trips in 1:16.11. J.Martin Bourdieu rode Waltzing Attila for owners Wesley and Glenda Gray and trainer Nancy Summers, while Francisco Amparan was aboard Flight Song for owners Pierre Amestoy Jr., Leslie Amestoy, and Roger K. Beasley, and trainer Jimmy Padgett.
Waltzing Attila is a homebred daugh- ter of Attila’s Storm. Another Attila’s Storm filly, Flight Song was bred by R.D. Hubbard. Their sire is an 18-year-old son of Forest Wildcat who earned $534,983 from 2004-07 and won the ‘07 Toboggan Handicap-G3 at Aqueduct Racetrack.
Waltzing Attila is one of two winners from as many starters produced by unraced Super Sister. Her third dam, the unraced homebred mare Liberated Sister, foaled 2007 New Mexico Cup Sprint Champ.-R winner Highland’s Best.
Flight Song is out of Hang Glide, a homebred winning and multiple stakes placed daughter of Dome. The filly is a full sister to multiple stakes winners Thermal and Reaper, and 2016 New Mexico Cup Juv. Champ.-R winner Another Brother.
Flight Song’s second dam, the unraced homebred mare Shes Flying, foaled Sky Diver, a half brother to Hang Glide who won the ‘03 Sandia Handicap at Albuquerque Downs and Free Spirit Handicap at Ruidoso Downs. The filly’s third dam, Shywing, won five stakes in California from 1985-86 and ran second in the ‘86 La Canada Stakes-G1 at Santa Anita Park. Both Waltzing Attila and Flight Song have raced exclusively in New Mexico.
