Making his first ever start at Albuquerque Downs, Rig Time was a prompt 2-5 favorite in the Aug. 16, 5 1/2-furlong Casey Darnell Stakes-R for New Mexico-breds.
Rig Time defeated 7-2 second choice Wheredoesthecashgo by 1-length in 1:03.31 under Isaias Enriquez. Weston Martin saddled the homebred gelding for owners Larry Teague and T. Harry Teague of Hobbs, New Mexico.
Rig Time was coming off of a 3 1/2-length victory in the 5 1/2-furlong, $50,000 Sierra Blanca Handicap-R at Ruidoso Downs on July 26. The gelding is one of four black-type stakes winners from 14 starters sired by Right Rigger, a Unbridled’s Song.
A half brother to the stakes-placed Stormandaprayer and Dothraki, Right Rigger has sired the earners of more than $1.3 million, including stakes winners Ten Penny Cents and Tea Light. The stallion is owned by Susan A. Hunter and stands at HunterCreek Farms at Roswell, New Mexico.
Rig Time’s dam, the winning New Mexico- bred mare Stardust Lady has foaled three win- ners from four starters, including Dust Alert, a full sister to Rig Time who won the 2015 Rio Grande Señorita Futurity-R at Ruidoso Downs,
and Dancinstardustlady, a full sister to Rig Time who ran second in last year’s $149,352 Copper Top Futurity-R at Sunland Park.
Rig Time’s second dam, Bellatrix, is a placed Virginia-bred daughter of the 1994 U.S. Horse of the Year Holy Bull. The geld- ing’s third dam, the winning mare Seeing The Circle, ran second in the ‘93 Tempted Stakes-G3 at Aqueduct.
Rig Time traces back to his fourth dam, 2-time stakes winner Dusty Gloves, a Kentucky- bred daughter of Run Dusty Run, produced two stakes winners, both of whom were half- brothers to Seeing The Circle - 2005 Sunland Park Handicap winner Fin Entertainment, and multiple stakes winner Middleweight.
The $60,000 winner’s share of the Casey Darnell Stakes purse pushed Rig Time’s bankroll to $407,154 from 23 outs, all in New Mexico. The gelding has won nine races, and his four stakes wins include the Jan. 26, 6 1/2-furlong Johnie L. Jamison Handicap-R, and the 2018 Road Runner Handicap-R at Ruidoso Downs.
Rig Time returned a $2.80 win mutuel and teamed with Wheredoesthecashgo for an $8.80 ($2) exacta. Del Mar Summer, the 10-1 third
choice in the nine-horse field, finished third, to complete a $1 trifecta dividend of $16.80.
Forger ran third and was followed by No Pasa Nada, E J’s Gold, Gunners One, Sky Vue, and My Indian Warrior.
Wheredoesthecashgo is campaigned by Amanda Sweeten and Pablo Navarez Hernandez. The gelding has won four of 27 races, includ- ing the 2017 Rio Grande Señor Futurity-R at Ruidoso Downs, with earnings of $197,355.
Del Mar Summer was third for breeders/ owners J. Kirk and Judy Robison. Del Mar Summer has won three of 13 races and has earned $113,136.
