PYC FIRST PRIZE MIA
by Tracy Gantz
Trainer Kenneth Weeks had the exacta in the Mother’s Day Stakes at Delta Downs on May 7. PYC First Prize Mia and Patriot Sayin Adios finished one-two for the conditioner, giving the winner a three-race winning streak.
Undefeated Not A Pretty Perry went off as the 9-10 favorite, with PYC First Prize Mia the third choice. Jockey J. Ramirez got PYC First Prize Mia out of the gate well in third. She rallied to over- take the leaders and won by 3/4-length in :17.617 for the 350 yards. The $15,000 winner’s share of the $28,900 purse boosts the bay filly’s earnings to $54,975.
Lester Colomb Jr. owns PYC First Prize Mia, who was coming off a victory in the April 23 Delta Dash Stakes and now has six wins in 13 starts. Weetona Stanley bred the filly in Louisiana from winner First Prize Diamond, a daughter of Broodmare of the Year First Prize Dash. First Prize Diamond has produced six winners in seven start- ers, including stakes winner First Prize Denim and stakes-placed First Prize Jet.
Patriot Sayin Adios (Jet Black Patriot-Sayin Together) and jockey John Hamilton defeated First Fancy Prize (PYC Paint Your Wagon-First Prize Fancy) and jockey Joe Badilla Jr. for second.
Weeks trains Patriot Sayin Adios, a $5,000 claim, for Janice Bell. Michael Taylor trains First Fancy Prize for Scott and Monica Jones and Raymond Loup.

DESIGN TOBE A WINNER
by Danny Camp
It’s just enough to win, as a nose in front is still first place, and this was the case at Arapahoe Park for the Dash For Speed Bonus Challenge on May 29.
A race for 3-year-old & older horses with a $20,239 purse, the race was held at a distance of 330 yards. Design Tobe A Winner broke well from the
1-post on the windy day. The 5-year-old mare quickly hit her stride under the influence of jockey Alfredo Triana Jr., and they ran down the field. The jockey was riding her for the first time, and he took a firm hold on the reins as they crossed the wire a nose in front. They stopped the clock at :17.100 to earn a speed index of 85.
Design Tobe A Winner deposited the $9,510
first place money, taking her total bankroll to $103,803. The beneficiaries of that check include owner James Lynn and trainer Chris Gandarilla. The mare now has a race record of six wins from 23 outs. Design Tobe A Winner also won the 2014 Animas Stakes, but the last time she found herself in the win- ner’s circle was early last year.
Design Tobe A Winner was bred in Colorado by Russell Rusty Vicchrilli out of the mare Designers Splash, who has produced 4 starters. Design Tobe A Winner is the mare’s top earner and first stakes winner.
The Ocean King (Corona Cartel-Runaway Wave) collected second place money for owners Hugo Sierra Barron & Denise VanAmburgh and trainer Jose Barron. Alejandro Luna was in the saddle. Essohess (Ocean Runaway-Dianetogetcha) collected third place money for owner/trainer Francisco Soto. Jeff Smith was in the irons. Followed by Graypromise (Separatist-Rivanne), Famous Wear (One Famous Eagle-Special Wear), Mr Investment Junior (Fantastic Corona Jr-Mrs Gray), Flying Foose (Foose-Flying Regal), Swex (Carters Cartel-Miss Six Fortune) & Rock That Wagon (Pyc Paint Your Wagon-First Tea Rose). Money Hungry Cartel was scratched.
Bucking Horse Sale Futurity
JERRYS SCOOTER
by Michael Compton
Jerrys Scooter may have crossed the wire in 2nd in the $18,705 Bucking Horse Sale Futurity in Miles City, Montana, but the 2-year-old colt was moved into 1st after the disqualification of Eyesa Special Harper. The Bucking Horse Sale Futurity trials were held May 8, with Jerrys Scooter winning his heat for the 2nd-fastest qualifying position. The futurity finals took place on May 22. Eyesa Special Harper was out on the lead and took every call to beat Jerrys Scooter by just a neck. But, Eyesa Special Harper broke inward, bumped and cut off one of her competitors and the filly was DQ’d from the win and placed 6th. Jerrys Scooter was then elevated to the top spot, notching the first stakes win of his young career with the help of the stewards. Ridden by jockey Rick Oliver, Jerrys Scooter raced in contention throughout the 300 yards. The pair hit the wire just missing Eyesa Special Harper by .36 seconds. Jerrys Scooter’s final time for 300 yards was :16.318. Jerrys Scooter is now perfect in both of his career tries for owner Marlene Young and trainer Paul Greene. The $9,352 winner’s share of the purse raised Jerry Scooter’s earnings to $9,792.
Young bred Jerrys Scooter in Wyoming in partner- ship with Gerald Heinrich. The colt is out of 2-time winner Wabbit On a High, a 100% winner producer with Jerrys Scooter being her first stakes winner. Jerrys Scooter is a 1/2-brother to stakes-placed Buckey On A High, who was 2nd in the Wyoming Bred Futurity. Musical Jess (Jess My Moon-Jungle Song) was 2nd under Juan Ramirez for Ralph Young and trainer David Greene. Ravensheart (Justaheartofawarrior-Holly Ali) was 3rd under Manuel Ramos for Ann Hansen & trainer Paul Greene, who also sent out the winner. Followed by Coronas Favorite (Coronas First Dash-Princess Fantasy) Runnin Bear Nay Kid (Profit Increase-Bearly Classy), the DQ’d Eyesa Special Harper (Eyesa Special Slim-Streakin Camilla) & Eyesa Special Shadow (Eyesa Special Slim-Lil Shameless Angel). Lucecita was scratched.
