                                Louisiana Purchase Stakes
OAK HILL STREAK
by Tracy Gantz
Maiden and allowance races have comprised Oak Hill Streak’s career until the May 6 Louisiana Purchase Stakes at Delta Downs. In her
first attempt in stakes company, the four-year-old filly overcame adversity to post a victory.
Oak Hill Streak took the brunt of bumping from either side during the first 50 yards of the 350-yard Louisiana Purchase. But she and jockey Gilbert Ortiz persevered, with Oak Hill Streak motoring forward to win by 1/2-length in :17.638.
The $24,000 winner’s share of the $40,000 purse boosts Oak Hill Streak’s total lifetime earn- ings to $86,610. John Stinebaugh trains Oak Hill Streak for owner Vanessa Bartoo. The filly has cam- paigned in Bartoo’s name since early this year, when she won one of three races at Hialeah Park. In total, Oak Hill Streak has now won five of nine starts.
Arnold Trahan bred Oak Hill Streak in Louisiana from Streakin Amber, who captured the 2006 Evangeline Downs Futurity for Trahan. The mare has produced six winners from seven starters, including Maxed Out Game, winner of the 2013 Mother’s Day Stakes at Delta Downs, and Streakin Ellen, who placed in four stakes in Louisiana.
Judith Ladner’s Voncitas Game (Game Patriot- Voncita) finished second with Antonio Alberto in the irons. Edwin Ladner trains the 5-year-old gelding.
Raul Ramirez Jr. rode Louisiana Legends (Jet Black Patriot-Sheza Cash Dasher) to third for trainer Carlos Saldivar. Alejandro Sanchez Jr. owns the 4-year-old gelding, who finished second in last year’s Vinton Stakes and South Florida Derby.
Completing the field were Happie Happie Happie (Jumpn-Goddess Athena), Running Game Patriot (Game Patriot-Eyesa La Tac), Jess Blueby Lena (Jess Louisiana Blue-Call Me Lenas Girl), B And G Fast Dash (Heza Fast Dash-Rita Regent) and Hesagoutitwoshoes (Agouti-Shes Going Fast).
Develop A Plan Stakes-G3
THE GOLDEN BOWL
by Michael Compton
The Golden Bowl had tested stakes company twice before the Develop A Plan Stakes-G3 at Delta Downs on May 28, turning in game efforts both times but failing to place. The third time proved the charm for The Golden Bowl as the 4-year-old colt graduated to the ranks of stakes winners with a strong performance for jockey David Alvarez in the Develop A Plan Stakes.
A compact six-pack lined up for the $26,650 event. The Golden Bowl took command early, duel- ing with race favorite Scoopies Leaving You in the early stages of the 350-yard test. The Golden Bowl put that one away and held at bay a late bid from JB First Rose and Alfonso Lujan to score by 1/2-length. The Golden Bowl received every call and stopped the clock in :17.606, earning a speed index of 88 for owner Rogelio Marquez and trainer Martin Trejo.
The $15,000 winner’s share of the purse raised The Golden Bowl’s lifetime earnings to $34,702 and improved his record to 4-3-0 from nine starts.
Bred in Texas by Jorge Meraz, The Golden Bowl is out of multiple graded stakes-winner First Dashin Bye. The mare, who earned $449,035 in her stellar racing career, is a 100% money/ROM producer. She is also the dam of stakes winners Ivan James, who won the 2015 Sam Houston Futurity-G2, and First Dashin Perry, who won the Mojo’s Stakes and set a 300-yard New Track Record at Evangeline Downs.
Runner-up JB First Rose (First Down Dash-
First Black Rose) is owned by J and B Rental and is trained by Orlando Orozco, while 3rd-place finisher Scoopies Leaving You (Coronas Leaving You-Ms Scoopies Toast), ridden by Donald Watson, is owned by Joel Galindo and conditioned by Kevin Broussard. Followed by RC Me Leaving You (Coronas Leaving You-Sixy Bottom), Fasttimeswith Redoak (Red Oak Special-Rg Miladys Fast Lady) & DQ’d from 5th to last Last Man Standin (Jodys Money Pop-La Jollas Game). Louisiana Legends was scratched.
Delta 550 Championship
WW SHOWTIME
by Michael Compton
Rain didn’t bother WW Showtime in the Delta 550 Stakes at Delta Downs on May 21, as the four-year-old colt surged to the front soon after the
start and proved much the best in the 550-yard test. Ridden by Raul Ramirez Jr., WW Showtime glided over the fast track and maintained a clear
advantage from start to finish. He crossed the fin- ish with 1 3/4-lengths to spare over Strong Guns and jockey David Alvarez. SC Divas First Down, piloted by J. Ramirez, finished third in a solid try.
In winning the first stakes race of his career, WW Showtime stopped the timer in :26.895, earning a speed index of 98 for owner Jaime Flores and trainer Homar Garza. The victory, achieved at odds of 10-1, improved WW Showtime’s career tab to 10-4-1-1 and increased his bankroll to $52,025 with the addition of the $24,000 winner’s share.
Bred in Louisiana by Darrell Williams, WW Showtime is the first stakes winner produced from the mare WW Family Tradition. The mare’s top money earner is Grade 1 finalist Sharpp Dressed Man.
Runner-up Strong Guns (Strong Hope- Gunslinger Girl), owned by Lester Colomb Jr.
and trained by Kenneth Weeks, rallied gamely along the inside to secure the place spot under David Alvarez. SC Divas First Down (First Down Dash-Spit Curl Diva) flashed early speed in the colors of owner Margarita Campos and trainer Eric Palacio, and faded slightly late to finish third with jockey J. Ramirez. LD Streakin N Leavin (Coronas Leaving You-Streakin Juanita), Secrets Fly (No Secrets Here-Once Upon a Fly), Sir Prize (First Prize Perry-Susanna M Salter), Iknow Heknows Iknow (Tres Seis-Dashing Patriot), Kool Dashing (First N Kool-Claresdashingassets), Mr Worldwide (Heza Fast Dash-Streakin Angelica) and Call Me Cajun Pie (Call Me Together-Sheza Faster Babe) completed the order of finish.
