WRAP YOU UP

Wrap You Up crossed the wire in second 1/2-length behind Betrothen in the $21,420 Merial Sun Downs Distaff Challenge on May 8, but was awarded the win when Betrothen was disquali- fied for interference and placed third.
With Jose Guerrero aboard, Wrap You Up covered 400 yards in :20.470, earning a speed index of 88. It was the third stakes win for Wrap You Up. The $9,853 winner’s share of the purse raised the 4-year-old filly’s bankroll to $71,630 and improved her record to 15-7(3)-1(0)-2(0). The win earned Wrap You Up a berth in the $125,000 Merial Distaff Challenge Championship-G1 at Los Alamitos.

Sorelli (Brookstone Bay-Cupids Special Fly) crossed the wire in third, but was moved to second. Osvaldo Gonzalez piloted the filly for trainer Roddina Barrett and owners Warlock Stable and Kelly Dougan.
RTM Stables’ Betrothen (Walk Thru Fire-Flo Jo Lady) placed third following the DQ. Nakia Ramirez was aboard for trainer Mark Hanson.

Fastest qualifier from the April 24 trials and race favorite Henry Craig remained undefeated in his first two career outings with a game score in the
$28,812 Pot O’Gold Futurity at Sun Downs on May 8. Ridden by Eduardo Gutierrez-Sosa, Henry
Craig broke alertly in the 300-yard dash and darted
to the front of the field of 10 juveniles. He dueled throughout, first fending off a challenge from L Bar D Genuine Red in the early stages and then holding Ima Ramblin Eagle at bay late to prevail by a neck over the latter at the finish. Henry Craig received every call in the event and the $11,217 winners share of the purse boosted the sorrel geldings earnings to $12,042
Trained by Hector Magallanes, Henry Craig stopped the timer in :15.852, earning a speed index of 89. Bred/owned by Cedar Creek Tree Farm Ranch and Racing, the gelding was home-bred in Oregon out of the Grade 1-placed mare Copa Show Girl. A winner
in three of 14 lifetime starts, Copa Show Girl finished second in the 2003 Retama Park Derby-G1 and earned $42,475 during her racing career. She has pro- duced 100% money earners from 10 starters, including top earner and additional stakes winner Warnock.

For Sweet Jess earned a berth in the $200,000 Adequan Derby Challenge Championship-G3 to be held on Oct. 29 at Los Alamitos with a wire-
to-wire score in the $25,380 Adequan Sun Downs Derby Challenge finals on May 7.
With Eduardo Gutierrez-Sosa aboard for the first time, the 3-year-old gelding jumped out first for the early lead in the 400-yard test and never looked back. In rolling to this third consecutive victory and third stakes tally, For Sweet Jess crossed the finish line wire-to-wire in an impressive 2-length victory. The final time of :20.115 earned a speed index of 97.
Owned by Ruben Magallanes and saddled by Hector Magallanes, For Sweet Jess has now won seven of 11 lifetime starts and earned $75,723 with the addition of this $11,675 winner’s share. Bred in Arizona by K & R Allred Ranch, LLC, For Sweet Jess is the top earner and first stakes winner out of 2001 Phoenix Futurity-G3 finalist For Some Cash. The mare is a 100% money earner/ROM producer from seven starters.
Runner-up Magic Moment Blues (Carters Cartel-Run the Dash), owned by Robin Dunn, Larry Chapple and RTM Stables, LLC and trained by Mark Hanson, chased the winner from gate to wire under Connie Doll. One Runaway Opener (One Sweet Jess-Runaway Eye Opener) raced in third throughout and secured the show spot under jockey Jose Madrigal for owner/trainer by Benito Curiel.
Katies Easy Moves (Maknmoves-Katie Lane Finder), Wait (Favorite Cartel-Katie Katella), El Guapo Enano (Sixthirteen TB-Trash In The Air), CM Secretsinthestraw (No Secrets Here-Im Special Star), First N Final (Favorite Cartel-Tiny First Down) and Stella Corona (Stel Corona-Yak Ity Yak Go) com- pleted the order of finish. Pappas In The House was DQ’d from 4th and placed 10th for interference with Stella Corona, causing him to lose his rider.
