by Michael Cusortelli
Clear Winn outran his 12-1 odds to win the 300-yard $35,600 La Plata Stakes-G3 at SunRay Park on May 8.
Ridden by Porfirio Cano and aided by a 12-mph tail wind, Clear Winn broke SunRay’s track record for the distance by stopping the timer in :14.886, besting the previous mark of :14.977 set by Call My Hero in an allowance race on June 13, 2014.

Clear Winn was making his first start since Dec. 15, when he ran second to multiple stakes winner This Wagons Okay in an open-condition 300-yard $40,340 allowance dash at Zia Park.
The colt was bred by J Bar 7 Ranch LLC of Quanah, Texas. Clear Winn is one of three winners from four starters foaled by 11-year-old mare Winga. He traces back to his third dam, Bugged Hopes, who won the graded Blue Ribbon Futurity in Oklahoma in 1992.

by Michael Cusortelli
Rachel Marzak’s Alsono TB remained undefeated at the 870-yard distance following his 4-length vic- tory in the Marathon Stakes at SunRay Park on May 6. Prepped by Justin Evans, Alsono covered his
trip in :44.744 while earning a 106 speed index and his fourth win in as many outs at the distance. Ry Eikleberry rode the 5-year-old horse.
Alsono was bred in Kentucky by Ann Marie Farm. The horse is one of six winners from seven starters foaled by the winning mare Miss Blue Grass. Alsono is a half-brother to Gig Harbor, who won two stakes at Golden Gate Fields in California from 2011-12, including the 1 1/16-mile $75,000 Alcatraz Stakes on the turf in 2012. Another of Alsono’s half siblings, filly My Lil Shamrock, ran third in the 2012 Golden Gate Debutante Stakes.
Alsono has won 13 of his 26 starts, and the $20,340 winner’s share of the $33,900 Marathon Stakes purse pushed his bankroll to $397,279. In addition to winning last year’s Marathon Stakes, the stallion was coming off of a Sunland Park winter season in which
he scored a wire-to-wire 1/2-length victory in the 5-fur- long $65,000 KLAQ Handicap on Dec.19.
Evans also trained runner-up Caminetto TB (Stormy Atlantic-Vassar). A 7-year-old Kentucky- bred gelding, Caminetto was ridden by Alfredo Juarez Jr. for owners A & A Equine Inc., Ken Tevelde and Paul Miller.
Isaac Balderama’s TTY From Mr Pye (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Miss Eyewear) was best among the Quarter Horses entered, as he ran third. The brown gelding was ridden by Jose Luis Enriquez for trainer Esteban Ramirez.
Fire Thorn (Shazoom-Reba Macintyler), Kingsbury (FDD Dynasty-Corona Lane), Colosso (Corona Czech-Splash N The Moon), and Ocean Smoke (Ocean Runaway-Smokin) completed the order of finish.
