by John Moorehouse
Tacitandrun entered the Roche Equine Veterinary Services Futurity as the top qualifier and showed plenty of speed in the stakes finals, outdueling Stellur to win the event held at Jerome County Fair in Idaho, on June 19.
Tacitandrun was the easy winner of his June 5 trial heat, scoring by 1 3/4-lengths for the fastest time of :18.029. The gelding bettered his time in the finals.
Stellur also won his trial heat, and he did so in wire-to-wire fashion by 4-lengths.
Stellur and Tacitandrun entered the Roche Equine Veterinary Services Futurity as the co- betting favorites.
The pair battled for the lead for the entirety of the 350 yards. Stellur broke on top, but Tacitandrun was running a close second at the first call after breaking third. Tacitandrun then moved to the front and led by a 1/2-length entering the stretch. The two horses drew clear of the rest of the competitors, but Tacitandrun held off his rival and won by a 3/4-length margin.
Jesus Virgen did the riding as Tacitandrun finished in :17.981, registering a 95 speed index and benefiting from a 5 mph tailwind.
This marked the first stakes win for Tacitandrun, who is owned and trained by Fredy Olmos. The gelding logged his third victory in four career starts, and brought home a $6,530 payday from the $16,326 purse that improved his total bankroll to $8,045.
Tacitandrun was bred in Oklahoma by Lake and Ledona Newcomb out of lightly raced win- ner Runaway Seis. The mare has produced 100% money earners from four starters. Tacitandrun becomes the first foal out of Runaway Seis to win a race in stakes company.
Monty Arrossa trains the other two horses who hit the board.
Stellur (Stel Corona-RW Red Wave) finished 1 1/2-lengths clear in second for Five Livestock Company, LLC. Jesus Canales was aboard.
