CHICS LOVE CURLS

An interesting group of 10 three-year- old runners bred in the United States participated in the Mexican Association of Breeders and Horsemen of Quarter Horses Classic (AMCCCCM), which is the second jewel of the Quarter Horse Mexican Triple Crown. The first jewel was the Easily
A Possum Classic and was taken by RG Golden King, and the sorrel colt ran again looking to take the next step towards the Triple Crown win.
It was a race full of expectation, held
at a distance of 400 yards, and was heav-
ily favored towards RG Golden King, who besides his first Triple Crown jewel also won the Dia del Charro National Championship. However, the main difference for him was that he would be manned by Eddi Cuellar, replacing Mario Alberto Lopez with whom he had already formed a bond.
But, this would not be a lucky afternoon for the big sorrel RG Golden King. At the start of the race, he has been notorious for lagging behind as he can free himself from the halter in time, a disadvantage. His rider
guided him, urging him with the whip, but in response the colt turned slightly to the right and interfering with the passage of the filly Fast Prize Robyn. Meanwhile from 2-post, Chics Love
Curls took advantage of
the opportunity with great
speed and led the group
throughout the race, well
assisted by Ismael Parra
Martinez. Only in the final
yards was he threatened by
the powerful stride of Make
The Deposit, which was
ridden by Leonardo Vidaña.

Curls held bravely and put
his nose on the line to take
this valuable win and main-
tain a perfect record of two
wins in as many outings, both in Classics since his debut in 2015 in which he won the Jesus “Nuchi” Jimenez Classic. His race time was :19.27 for a good 102 speed index.
The colt was bred in the United States by
Weetona Stanley. His father is Spit Curl Jess and his dam is First Prize Chic (by Country Chicks Man). He is owned by the Diaz
de Leon Cuadra and trained by Epifanio
Carrasco Sandoval.
The total purse for this
race was $319,100 pesos (approximately US $17,205), of which $191,460 pesos (approximately US $10,323) went to the winner.
After the race there was an investigation against RG Golden King, and he was disqualified by the steward- ess from third to eighth place.
The grey colt Make The Deposit (PYC Paint Your Wagon - Fast Dash Tanisha)
took second place, for Cuadra Cartas Blanca and trainer José de Jesús Valdivia. He was ridden by Leonardo Vidaña.
