by John Moorehouse
Psychedelic Scott posted another big win as part of an impressive body of work during his rookie cam- paign, going wire-to-wire in the Pot O Gold Paint &
Appaloosa Futurity at Will Rogers Downs on Oct. 3. The 2-year-old gelding now holds 4 wins in 8 starts, and 2 in stakes company. Psychedelic Scott also won the PSBA Futurity-G1 held this spring, and was 2nd in this year’s Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Futurity and 3rd in the Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity.
Paint Horse Queens owns Psychedelic Scott, who boosted his earnings to $102,194 with the addition of this $12,844 payday. Dee Keener trains Psychedelic Scott, who had Jesus Salazar up on an impressive run. The gelding broke on top from the 2-gate and pro- ceeded to run away from the competition. Psychedelic Scott led by 1-length at the 1st call and continued to separate himself by daylight for the remainder of the 400 yards. He held a 1 1/2-length advantage going into the stretch, and exploded to win by 2 3/4-lengths. The gelding took :19.679 to finish the race, registering a 97 speed index in the process. Wendy Ingersoll bred Psychedelic Scott out of The Hippie Chick QH.

TEXAS SILK
by John Moorehouse
Texas Silk charged to his 2nd victory of 2015 on Oct. 3, making a game run in the $24,300 Lorelei Paint & Appaloosa Derby-G1 at Will Rogers Downs. Charles Leggett’s 3-year-old gelding now holds 5 wins in stakes company and improved his overall record by notching his 7th victory in 16 total starts. The reigning World Champion Running Breeding Stock Paint Horse has only finished out of the money 3 times in his career. This win generated an $11,310 payday, boosting his bankroll to $231,132. All of Texas Silk’s other stakes wins came during his rookie season, highlighted by the Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1, which had a payout of almost 6 figures to the winner.
Texas Silk broke in the middle of the pack from the 8-hole, but quickly asserted himself and led by a head
at the 1st call. He continued to run in front by a neck entering the stretch and held on to win by that same margin. Trained by Dee Keener, Texas Silk had Jimmy Brooks up for his latest stakes-winning effort, which saw him cover the 400 yards in :19.899 for a 91 speed index.
H.T. & Kay Churchwell bred Texas Silk out of stakes winner Judys Silk, dam of 100% stakes win- ners from 3 starters, including Flash Of Silk, who has earned over $136,000, and Country Quick Cookie.

SOUTHERN CIGAR
by John Moorehouse
Southern Cigar’s connections had reason to light up a victory cigar after he out-dueled Appsolutely T to win the $22,925 Grade 1 Cricket Bar Appaloosa Futurity on Oct. 3 at Will Rogers Downs.
A 2-year-old gelding, Southern Cigar broke his maiden and earned black type simultaneously, reach- ing the winner’s circle for the 1st time in 5 career outs. The $6,734 prize for this race nearly tripled his prior career earnings, increasing his overall bankroll to $9,507. As a 20-1 longshot, Southern Cigar also paid off handsomely at the betting window for his backers. Southern Cigar ran 2nd for most of the race, but saved his best for the final few yards. He broke 2nd from the 2-hole and remained in the runner-up posi- tion both at the 1st call and as he entered the stretch. The gelding then chased down Appsolutely T during those final strides and out-nodded his rival at the wire. Jared Breedlove owns Southern Cigar, who is trained by Ray Enlow and had Mario Chavez in the irons. Southern Cigar completed this breakthrough 400-yard trip in :20.362 for an 80 speed index. This was after an inauspicious start to his career, which began May 3 in a maiden at Remington Park, although he was coming off consecutive runner-up finishes into this race. Glen Wilkinson bred Southern Cigar out of Cha Ching, a 2002 Appaloosa mare.
Appsolutely T (Freighttrain B-Special Six Moons), another underdog at 15-1 odds, was
second for owner/trainer Jeffrey Tyer. William Thomason drew the riding assignment. Train Wreck (Freighttrain B-R Ms Kitty), the pre-race betting favorite, finished 3rd under Edgar Martinez for Jeff Adams & trainer Dee Keener. Followed by Hang On Tight (With Intent-You Da One), Star Power Intent (With Intent-Power Buggy), Doux Hickey (Easy Doux-Dashing Cleta), Pikee (Furrtreeous-Sakira) & Veo Swagger (Blue Oyster Cult-Fast As You). Old Memories scratched.
