JRS BLUE BOY
by Danny Camp
JRS Blue Boy was much the best in the 350-yard Elko Intermountain Futurity at the Elko County Fair in Nevada.
The two-year-old gray gelding won his
maiden race by 2-lengths. Next, he won his Elko Intermountain Futurity trial heat on Aug. 29, going wire-to-wire and finishing a length on top to score the fastest qualifying time.
And then, he continued his streak by winning the Sept. 7 Elko Intermountain Futurity.
It was a beautiful day and the track was fast for the $33,410 finals as jockey Jesus Canales guided the gelding into the 8-post for the start.
The gates opened and JRS Blue Boy got the first call, but he broke in a bit. He stayed on the lead and received every call thereafter. He had a head at the first call and maintained the same margin at the top of the stretch. JRS Blue Boy held off a challenge by Scooter Willie and finished a neck in front at the wire. JRS Blue Boy tripped the timer at :17.966 for a 95 speed index.
The gelding has a perfect three-for-three record. The $13,364 first place money from this race, which is his first in stakes company, takes his total bankroll to $16,964.
JRS Blue Boy is bred/owned by Sam Allie and trained by Riley Moosman. Jesus Canales had the riding assignment in the trials as well as in the finals.
JRS Blue Boy was bred in Colorado and is the only starter out of Lil Blue Blitz, who earned her AAA register of merit on the track.
Overcoming a rocky and bumpy start, Scooter Willie (Twoforthedough-Slipawaysuzy) made a strong bid and came away with the second place check. The gelding is owned by Lawrence Blonquist and trained by Chad Giles. Uriel Dominguez picked up the ride.
Gimme A Hottie (Bs Gimme Five-Dashing Sheena) was on the outside and drifted in just a bit, but Rachel Goodgame kept the filly rolling, and they held on for third place. Gimme A Hottie is owned by Brent and Sherry Young and trained by Brent Young.
Completing the order of finish was Mark Of
A Nobleman (Mark My Dial-Contessa Cartel) in fourth, followed by Copen Hagen Cowgirl (Fish RR Man-Vels Energy Pak), Chew Chew Chick (Royal Blue Chew Chew-Give My Chic Bac), Good Times (Good Reason Sa-Azi Chick), Dash N The Wind (Furyofthewind-Eyes Flashy) and Five O (Tell Him Twice-Kj Streakin Jill). Z E E Jess was scratched by the stewards.

by Michael Cusortelli
Last season’s Indiana Quarter Horse of the Year, Pistolpacking Pepsi, scored the first stakes vic- tory of his 4-year-old season in the $95,900 Bob
Woodard Memorial Classic for state-breds at Indiana Grand Racecourse on Aug. 29.
Pistolpacking Pepsi went 400 yards in :20.020, and his winning margin was 1/2-length from 7-5 favorite WH Design By Dash. Jose Beltran rode Pistolpacking Pepsi for owners Robert A. Ray & Ronald Brown, who also trains the 4-year-old gelding.
Pistolpacking Pepsi was bred by Diana Keiser of Richmond, Indiana. Raced exclusively in Indiana, the gelding has won 11 of 21 outs - including three stakes during his sophomore campaign - and he has earned $356,879.
“He stepped up to the plate tonight against older horses,” said Brown. “He did well as a 3 year old, and this year has been a bigger challenge racing against the older horses. It took a little longer for him to get into the mix this year.”
Pistolpacking Pepsi is the lone winner from 2 starters foaled by Wave Of Pepsi. The gelding has won five stakes, all against Indiana-breds, including the 2013 Miss Roxie Little Futurity.
WH Design By Dash (Brimmstone-Fast Mans Dash) was ridden by Victor Olivo for owner Julia Rae Martin & trainer Paul Martin. The 4-year-old gelding has won 2 stakes at the current Indiana Grand meet. Fastest qualifier & multiple stakes winner Chilled
Six Pack (Chilled Corona-Six Packin Robin) ran 3rd under Shanley Jackson for Dula Racing LLC & trainer Matt Frazier. Followed by Fillemup Phil (Brookstone Bay-Miss Reminice), DNA Sweet Dale (Sweet First Down-Chrystal Dale), Eyem Jumpn (Jumpn Chic- Double Two Stepper), Tinys First Pepsi (Tinys First Corona-Chics Pepsi), Firebawl (Jess Zoomin-Jess A

SEIZE THE WIN
by Michael Cusortelli
Fastest qualifier Seize The Win was a prompt 8-5 favorite in the 400-yard $80,120 Quarter Horse Racing Association of Indiana Stallion Service
Auction Derby at Indiana Grand on Sept. 12. Racing for Glenn Graff of Franklin Furnace,
Ohio, Seize The Win stopped the timer in a stakes- record :19.674 while defeating Stinkin Rich by a neck. Oscar Delgado rode the brown colt for trainer Matt Frazier.
The $31,247 winner’s share of the purse pushed the Seize The Win’s bankroll to $320,167 from 12 outs. Delgado took over the mount from Shanley Jackson, who rode the colt to a 1/2-length victory in his trial on Aug. 29. Jackson was injured at Indiana Grand on Sept. 8.
“You have to give the credit to Shanley; he’s the rider who’s done all the work on this horse,” Delgado said. “(Seize The Win) is very professional. He knows where the horses are and when they are com- ing at him, and he knows where the wire is.”
Seize The Win was bred by Jerry Windham of College Station, Texas. The colt is one of seven winners from nine starters produced by winner Jess An Illusion. Seize The Win is a 1/2-brother to Grade 3 winner Mister Big and two graded stakes placed runners, including 2008 Heritage Place Futurity-G1 runner-up Jess Zoomin. Campaigned in four states and provinces, Seize The Win has won six races, including four stakes.
Matt Frazier also trains Stinkin Rich (One Famous Eagle-Miss Scarlet), 2nd under Rodney Prescott for Carolyn Bruce. Parti Favor (Pyc Paint Your Wagon- Funparty) ran 3rd under Rolando Pina for owner/traier Joe M. Davis. Followed by Beach Cartel (Escondido Beach-Flashin Dee Dee), Fast Man Vic (Mighty Invictus-Precious Debutante), This Wagon Is Mine (Pyc Paint Your Wagon-This Girl Is Special), DNA Dales Quick Cat (Quick Action-Chrystal Dale) & Ms Fool Me Once (Escondido Beach-Foolininthemeadow).
