                                Herman Jefferson Stakes
EXECUTIVE TRUST
by Danny Camp
When opportunity knocks, open the door. That’s exactly what jockey Ruby Gonzalez did in
the 11th running of the Herman Jefferson Stakes at Zia Park on Oct. 4. The 870-yard race carried a total purse of $55,180, with $33,000 going to the winner.
It was a dreary day & the track was sloppy & sealed. Executive Trust broke 4th from the 4-post. The 4-year-old gelding was outrun to the turn, but when the 3 leaders drifted out, Gonzalez pointed her mount to the inside and they dug in and saved ground. They were 2nd at the top of the stretch and made it to the wire 1 1/4-lengths in front. Executive Trust stopped the clock at :46.496 for an 81 speed index. The winner’s share takes his earnings to $181,017, and his race record is now 8 wins from 18 starts. He’s also won his last 2 in a row. Executive Trust, a distance specialist, won the 870- yard Master Salls Handicap earlier this year, as well as last year’s 870-yard King Rick Rack Stakes. He was also second in both the Sunland Distance Challenge-G3 and Remington Distance Handicap-G3 this year.
Executive Trust is owned by Sherree Meridyth and trained by Guadalupe Munoz Jr. The gelding was bred in Texas by Scarlett Hill Farm Inc., out of 2-time winner Entrust. The mare has produced addi- tional stakes winner and her top earner Executive Brass ($382,282), is a full brother to Executive Trust.
Kingsbury (Fdd Dynasty-Corona Lane) was 2nd under Frank Reyes for owners Javier Beltran, Tommy Galvez & Tony Sedillo, who is also the trainer. Famous Edge Of Glory (One Famous Eagle-Shake Em Rita Ballou) was 3rd under Irwin Rosendo for Richard E. Ford & trainer Lonnie Vaughn. Followed by Tres Primeros (Tres Seis-Docs First Card), Painted Josy (Pyc Paint Your Wagon-She’s Josy TB), Whiteface Eagle (One Famous Eagle-Sing And Pray), Emperor Valerian (Heza Fast Dash-Sheeza Lil Val) & An Absolut Diamond (Ketel Won-The Millennium Star). Alsono & Chasing The Heat were scratched.
NM Breeders’ Futurity-RG3
RG MIRACLE
by Michael Cusortelli
RG Miracle, a homebred gelding racing for Shirley Grisham of Albuquerque and the 4th-fastest quali- fier from the Aug. 8 trials, scored his first stakes victory
in the August 23, $102,000 New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity-RG2 finals at SunRay Park on Aug. 23.
Prepped by the owner’s husband, Ken Grisham, and ridden by Isaias Cardenas, RG Miracle covered 350 yards in :17.313 and earned a career-best 93 speed index. The gelding’s margin of victory was 1-length from second-fastest qualifier and odds-on favorite Wood Be A Bullet, and the $47,940 winner’s share of the purse pushed his bankroll to $70,352.
“He’s such a good horse,” said Ken Grisham. “I felt like if he could get out of the gate, he could beat them. He’s gotten out of the gate well a couple of times, and he’s won both times.”
Campaigned exclusively in New Mexico, RG Miracle has won two of six outs, including two of three during the 36-day SunRay Park summer meet.
RG Miracle is the first Quarter Horse or Thoroughbred starter foaled by his dam, the win- ning 9-year-old Thoroughbred mare Purple Ice.
Second-placed Wood Be A Bullet (Woodbridge- Bullet Bullion) was acquired for $7,000 at last year’s New Mexico Bred Yearling Sale by owner HWD Racing Stables. Alex Bautista rode the gelding for trainer Hemerio Hernandez. Grisham also prepped third-place finisher Shes A Blazin Winner (Winners Version-Shes So Blazin). A half sister to multiple graded stakes winner Osbaldo, the homebred filly was ridden by Alejandro Medellin for owner Hubaldo Solis of Peralta, New Mexico. Followed by Princess Jesse (Jesse James Jr-Total Miracle), My Mojito (Jesse James Jr-Reacorona), Rapid James (Jesse James Jr-Christinas Crystal), Winners Rule (Winners Version-Rime And Rule), Chickaloni (Jess A Chicks-Machi Moon), A Blazin Flash (Chicks A Blazin-Flash Me First) & fastest qualifier WR Jessie (Jesse James Jr-W R Aces Fame).
I-80 Futurity
GOLDEN SPECIAL PIE
by Danny Camp
After the trials for the 300-yard I-80 Futurity were contested at Sweetwater Downs on Sept. 4 in Evanston, Wyoming, the Central Wyoming Fair in Casper hosted the $20,000 finals on Sept. 19.
Golden Special Pie was the 6th fastest from eight to qualify after finishing second in her heat by 1/2-length to fastest qualifier Hes A Corona Bay. Rider Juan Pulido rode Golden Special Pie in the trials and was aboard once again for the finals.
When the starter said go, it was Golden Special
Pie who stepped away from the 8-post on the lead. Although she drifted in a bit about the halfway point, she was clear and didn’t interfere with anyone. Pulido straightened his mount and the bay filly received every call en route to a neck victory in :15.345. The clocking was worth a 107 speed index, which bettered the previ- ous time of :15.420 for 300-yard set way back in 1984.
Golden Special Pie earned her first stakes victory in the I-80 Futurity as well as the first place money of $8,000, which takes her bank account to $11,225. Her record is now 1(1)-2-1 from five starts.
The filly is owned by Ruben Chavez & trained Jorge Nava. Golden Special Pie was bred by Chavez out of unraced Sheza Special Pie, who has produced 3 stakes runners from 7 starters. Splash Special is her top runner with nearly $47,000 earned.
Keysas Si (Coronas Fast Dash-Glow N Go Tell) made up several lengths after a slow break to get up for 2nd under Daniel Valles for owner Fidel Roybal and trainer Jorge Nava. Jess My Apollo (Jess My Moon-Jungle Song) hustled up and took 3rd under Clyde Smith for owner Ralph Young and trainer Mike Taylor. Followed by Timeless Hope (Masters Call-Dash For Time), Favorite Hat (Favorite Cartel-Hat D Strawfly), Brooks Big Boy (Winners Version-Runnning Brook Gal), Hes A Corona Bay (Brookstone Bay-Flaming Corona) & Tsunami Jack (Wave Carver-Smash Dance).
