De Saix Stakes
HEZAFASTNFUN
by Michael Compton
Hezafastnfun broke sharply from his rail draw and never looked back in defeating nine others in the $37,400 De Saix Stakes on Aug. 29 at Fair Grounds.
With Raul Ramirez Jr. aboard, Hezafastnfun dashed clear of the field soon after the start of the 330-yard test. He maintained a clear advantage
to the wire, holding for a 1/2-length victory over Sistahrogue and jockey Patrick Watson. It was another 1/2-length back to Fast Ladys Man and Saul Ramirez Jr. in third.
Hezafastnfun stopped the timer in :16.723 and earned a speed index of 95. The win marked the first added-money score of Hezafastnfun’s five-race career. The $24,000 winner’s share of the purse lifted the Justin Haug trainee’s bankroll to $41,080. Hezafastnfun’s record now stands at 5-2-1-1 for owner Michael Byrd.
Mars Racing bred Hezafastnfun in Louisiana out of Streakin Fast N Fun, winner of the 2006 Dixie Stallion Futurity. Streakin Fast N Fun is the dam of three winners from five starters, and Hezafastnfun is her first stakes winner.
De Saix Stakes runner-up Sistahrogue (Teller Cartel-Miss Jess Rogue) is owned by Pat Crabtree and was saddled by Kenneth Roberts Sr.
Timothy and Theresa Stephens’ Fast Ladys Man (Jet Black Patriot-Miss Fortune Lady), trained by Trey Ellis, broke out after the start and closed ground late to get up for third.
Completing the order of finish were Moonflash Garden (First Moonflash-Run Like Katy Did) in fourth, followed by Laveauxs Oak Tree (Oak Tree Special-Miss Leveaux), Windschke (Jess Zoomin- Livorno), Twelve Squared (TR Dasher-Twelving), Jla Southern Comfort (Coronas Leaving You-TMW Shesabigoleflirt), Eyes on Chris (Fast Prize Dash- Eyes On Lillie) and Red Cat Alak (Red Storm Cat- Texhoma Dash).
Faubourg St. John Stakes
STREAK OF MUSIC
by Michael Compton
Talk about a quick return on investment. Claimed for $10,000 in June by trainer Ray Robbins for owner Kevin Nobles, Streak Of Music made it two wins in a row for his new connections, taking the top prize in the $39,700 Faubourg St. John Stakes at Fair Grounds on Sept. 5.
With Donell Blake back aboard after guiding the 4-year-old gelding to a win in his prior out, Streak Of Music broke alertly from the 1-post. He raced in 2nd early, tracking pacesetter MCM Zuper Man. Full of run in the lane, Streak Of Music launched a rail bid for the lead. He collared MCM Zuper Man & shot clear of that rival in the stretch. Leaving little doubt which runner was best on the day, Streak Of Music crossed the wire with a commanding 4-lengths to spare. He stopped the timer for 870 yards in a spirited :45.433, just ticks off of First Down Toro’s 2008 track record of :45.210. Streak Of Music’s final clocking earned a speed index of 102.
The win marked Streak Of Music’s 4th at the marathon distance. The $24,000 winner’s share of the purse increased his lifetime bankroll to $78,455.
Bred in Louisiana by Leonard Haven, Streak Of Music is out of Wire Me Music TB, who won 3 of 17 starts during her racing career, earning $39,490.
MCM Zuper Man (Heza Fast Dash-Oh Shez Zuper) cleared the field under Donald Watson, but couldn’t match strides with the winner late & was 2nd for Ponderosa Ranch of P.C. Inc. and MCM Farms and trainer Vann Haywood. David Lee Vance’s Keepn It Cool (First to Shine-Kool K. J.-TB) rallied 4-wide around the turn for jockey Alfonso Lujan to take 3rd for trainer Danny Eldridge. Heza Fast Corridor (Heza Fast Dash-Classic Corridor-TB), Droppin Timber (First Timber-Droppindead Gorgeous), Cosino Winner (Cosino-Winners Never Quit-TB), Downtown Forrest (Beau Brummel SA-Ce Ce Chicado) & First Corona Prize (First Prize Perry-Raise a Corona) followed.
LQHBA Sale Invitational
THISGAMEISUNREAL
by Michael Compton
It may not have been the lucrative main event
on the Sept. 5 stakes program at Fair Grounds, but Thisgameisunreal’s sharp performance in the
$33,773 LQHBA Sale Invitational, the consolation race for 2 year olds who competed in the trials for the LQHBA Sale Futurity-G1, promises to vault the winner on to bigger and better game.
With Saul Ramirez Jr. aboard, Thisgameisunreal darted to the front after the break. The brown colt was never menaced and drew away to a 1-length score. His final time for 350 yards was :17.464, not far off of the :17.424 it took for Telarosa to win the Grade 1 main event.
Bobby Martinez trains Thisgameisunreal for owner J and L Stables. The colt now has earnings of $37,421 and owns a record of 5-3-1-0.
Thisgameisunreal, a $30,000 purchase at the 2014 LQHBA Yearling Sale, was bred in Louisiana by Gerald Libersat out of Unrealistic. The mare won the 2010 LQHBA Invitational Stakes and the 2011 Billy Montgomery LAD Stakes and earned $117,199.
Stolin Obsession (Stoli-Dashing Obsession) proved best of the rest, finishing 2nd under David Alvarez after breaking out and bumping after the start. The sorrel gelding is owned by J F Racing and Farm and is conditioned by Martin Trejo.
Race favorite Streakin Bye U (Heza Fast Dash- Streakin Bye Salute), ridden by Alfonso Lujan, passed runners late to secure the show spot for owner Guerras Racing Stable and trainer Octavio Saenz Jr.
Completing the order of finish were Game
On Vince (Oak Tree Special-Dashing Mulan),
Mia Gouti (Jet Black Patriot-Afri), Jumpn So Fast (Jumpn-Abstinence), LD Jumpn And Dashing (Jumpn-Ms Sassy Dash), Seemenowcatchmelater (Too Tough To Catch-Seventeen Bugs). Patriotgalabouttown and Special Coors Cartel were both scratched.
