STREAK N DIAMONDS
by Danny Camp
In a 350-yard race, the wire gets there quick. With
a steady and even effort, it was Streak N Diamonds who was equal to the task in the $44,400 Minnesota
Futurity at Canterbury Park on Sept. 6.
The 2-year-old sorrel gelding made it look easy.
Under jockey Jorge Torres, Streak N Diamonds broke well and on the lead. He continued to pull away from the field all the way, finishing a good 1 3/4-lengths in front. He tripped the timer in :18.035 for a 90 speed index.
The performance also produced a $22,200 first place check. Streak N Diamonds has now earned a total of $34,830 and has a race record of two wins from four tries.
Streak N Diamonds is owned by Dale R. Haglund and Chuck Kaim. Haglund is also in charge of conditioning and is the breeder.
Streak N Diamonds was bred in Minnesota, out of winner Streak N Sierra. The mare has produced 100% money earners from her five starters. Her top earner is Streak N Hot, who also won the Minnesota Futurity in 2011 and who was named 2012 Central Hi-Point 3-Year-Old Colt.
The clear second place finisher was V Os Filo (Pyc Paint Your Wagon-Miss Eyewear), who made a great run under Nik Goodwin for owner Rodney Von Ohlen & trainer Edward Ross Hardy.
After a long look at the photo, the stewards said Sr Ur Fired (Teller Cartel-Zoomshakalaka) was
in third. He was ridden by Mark Luark for owner Summer Run Inc. and trainer Jason Olmstead.
Completing the order of finish was Cj Jimmys Cashy (Ivory James-Takin On The Crunch) in fourth, followed by Blacks Cartel (Streakin Six Cartel-Brandi Whiz), Gramma Ella (Knud With Wings-Whereshesupposedtobe), Dashing Good Reason (Good Reason Sa-Dashing Mariah) and Chick Fight (Jesse James Jr-Prime Time Rosie).
Minnesota Derby
FISHIN IN THE BROOK
by Danny Camp
When you go fishing, it’s all about what you use for bait. There was $44,650 for bait
at Canterbury Park on Sept. 6 for the 400-yard Minnesota Derby, and Fishin In The Brook caught the biggest fish - the $22,325 winner’s share.
A cloudy day with a head wind greeted the con- testants, and Canterbury Park provided a fast track. Fishing In The Brook broke sharply on top from the 9-post and veered in slightly. It was the first time Dale Beaty rode this horse, and he adjusted quickly with the left handed whip and a tight right rein. They straightened out and Fishin In The Brook lengthened his stride, finishing 1/2-length in front and stopping the timer at :20.366 for an 87 speed index.
This win gives Fishin In The Brook a race record
of 3 wins from 8 tries and ups his bankroll to $44,045. The 3-year-old sorrel gelding is owned by Cynthia M. Besser and trained by Shane Miller. Bred in Minnesota by Besser, Fishin In The Brook is out of winner Hempeness. The mare has produced 100% winners/ ROM from her 5 starters. Fishin In The Brook is now her top earner, although she is also the dam of stakes winner/New Track Record setter Mr Hempens Feature.
Tty From Mr Pye (Pyc Paint Your Wagon-Miss Eyewear) took 2nd under Nik Goodwin for Rodney Von Ohlen & trainer Edward Ross Hardy. Using lots of energy banging around in the gates, yet holding on to 3rd was Cokato Cartel (Carters Cartel-Southern Fun) under the guidance of Ry Eikleberry for Robert & Julie Petersen and trainer William Harris. Followed by Bee Bee Guns (Zoomin For Bux-Garters N Guns), Crashed On Corona (Mighty Corona-Sweet Wranglers), Rey
D Arranque (Afteralilitsme-Jazzing Jackie), Apollitical Chick (Chicks Regard-Blazin Apollo), Love My P

Cash Caravan Stakes
LITTLE BIT BRANDY
by Michael Cusortelli
Aone-time $7,500 claimer, Little Bit Brandy scored his first stakes victory in the 440- yard Cash Caravan Stakes for Minnesota-breds at Canterbury Park on Aug. 20.
Little Bit Brandy covered his quarter-mile trip in :22.235, and his margin of victory was 1/2-length from Cokato Cartel. Jorge Torres rode the homebred 4-year- old gelding for owner Lowell Schrupp of Howard Lake, Minnesota, and trainer Robert Johnson.
Little Bit Brandy was coming off of a 1-length allowance victory at Canterbury on July 24.
“He was having trouble getting out of the gate; he falls a lot,” said Johnson. “The last time he ran, he didn’t fall and he ran a big race. He didn’t fall today, and he ran another big race.
“Dirt Road Queen (the wagering favorite who finished sixth) is a good horse,” added the trainer. “Our horse just took a run at them.”
Raced exclusively at Canterbury Park, Little Bit Brandy has won three of 14 starts, and the $16,875 winner’s share of the $33,750 Cash Caravan Stakes purse pushed his bankroll to $55,784.
Little Bit Brandy is the first winner from three starters foaled by Little Special Flame, a Minnesota- bred daughter of 1981 World Champion Special Effort.
Cokato Cartel (Carters Cartel-Southern Fun) ran second for owners Robert & Julie Petersen. Stormy Smith rode the homebred sophomore filly for trainer Bill Harris. Johnson also sent out third-place finisher Justa Bump (Dashin Chico-My Whiskey Girl) for own- ers Eugene & Rita Boehlke. Ronald Richard rode the homebred 4-year-old gelding. Followed by Irish Brew (Jess Zoomin-Irish Bailey Brew), Mr Hempens Feature (Feature Mr Jess-Hempeness), Dirt Road Queen (Country Chicks Man-Inclinda), TTY From Mr Pye (Pyc Paint Your Wagon-Miss Eyewear), Fastbacbaby (Okey Dokey Dale-Silver Fastbac) and V Os Ebony And Ivory (Ivory James-Bryons Showgirl).
