Hawthorne Futurity
WINNERS COOL CHICK
By Danny Camp
It was a battle of the Eddies. Eddie Garcia was on the inside riding the third fastest qualifier, and on his right shoulder Eddie Aceves was riding the fastest
qualifier. They left the one and three posts respectively, both wanting the biggest part of the $57,294 purse for the Hawthorne Futurity on Sept. 13 at Sandy Downs.
There was a head wind, but the track was fast because the winner earned a 107 speed index, but then again so did the second place finisher. It was Quarter Horse racing at its finest: head-to-head and stride-for-stride. In the end, the $26,355 first place money went to Eddie Garcia and his mount, Winners Cool Chick, as they stopped the clock at :17.603 for the 350-yards.
Winners Cool Chick, who now has earned $34,803 and has a race record of three wins from five tries, also finished 2nd in the Beehive Futurity at Laurel Brown Racetrack. Under the guidance of trainer Michael Monson, the brown gelding has won two in a row.
Winners Cool Chick is owned by A and C Racing and Roping and was bred in New Mexico by Chad Richard out of Feature Cool Chick. The mare, who ran a second in the New Mexican Spring Futurity-RG1, has produced 100% money earners from her five start- ers. Winners Cool Chick is her first stakes winner.
Coronas Fast Game (Coronas Fast Dash-Game Snowlady) was 2nd under Eddie Aceves for Ben L. McKinney and RTM Stables LLC & trainer Jim Hanson. Love To Reason Br (Good Reason Sa-Strength In Numbers) was 3rd under Raymundo Torres for CMH Welding LLC & trainer Monte Arossa. Followed by Magic Moment Blues (Carters Cartel-Run The Dash), Sweet Sweet Love (One Sweet Jess-Miss Willie Nilly), Sparklin Cartel (The Louisiana Cartel-Sign
Of Pride), Riskee Moves (Maknmoves-Take Charge Lindsy), Sts Moven Spitfire (Saint Shackleton-Finders Dream Maker) & Tic Tac Attack (Tac It Like A Man- Harney Girl). Kissin Kate Barlow scratched.
Double Down Derby
RTM MR CACCIA
by Danny Camp
It was a cloudy breezy day for most on Sept. 13 at Sandy Downs in Idaho Falls, Idaho, but it was bright and shiny for RTM Mr Caccia after winning
the 400-yard $22,240 Double Down Derby.
The gray gelding was the sixth fastest qualifier
after finishing third in his Aug. 22 trial.
In the finals, he was given the third call from the
gates. Coming out of the nine-hole under regular rider Nakia Ramirez, RTM Mr Caccia went to work. He was in second at the first call and in the lead at the top of the stretch. The gelding finished a neck in front, tripping the timer at :20.294 for a 90 speed index.
RTM Mr Caccia stepped it up big time in win- ning the finals for owner RTM Stables LLC.
With the $10,230 first place money, RTM Mr Caccia has a total bankroll of $42,464. His race record is now five wins from 14 starts, and those five wins came from his last eight starts. Trainer Jim Hanson has him hitting on all cylinders, and his future looks bright indeed.
RTM Mr Caccia, who is out of winner Shirleys Secret, is a 1/2-brother to stakes winner RTM Say Your Prayers and stakes placed winner RTM Moonshine.
Racing stride-for-stride and right next to the winner was Nurse Hawkinson (Hawkinson-Money Nurse) in a duel to the wire, holding on for second under J. Torres for owner Dan A. Moon and trainer David Newbold.
Morgan Gale (Fdd Dynasty-Coronation Time) left the gates on the lead and finished third under Jesus Valenzuela for owner Bruce Hillman and trainer Heath Hillman.
Followed by Had To Be Giggles (Hadtobenuts- Chicks And Giggles), Sheza Lolita (Tell Him Twice-Sheza Gator), Teller Im Nuts (Hadtobenuts- Just Wanna Teller), Zefee (Separatist-Transforming Bruce) & D Separatist (Separatist-Fire For Toby). Fastest qualifier Getoutofthefastlane & Now Im Good were scratched.
Merial SDY Distaff Challenge
BETROTHEN
by Danny Camp
There was a 15mph head wind to be dealt with on Sept. 13 at Sandy Downs in Idaho, but Betrothen didn’t have a problem with it because she ran the fastest race of her life. It was in the 400-yard $25,740 Merial Sandy Downs Distaff Challenge.
Betrothen stepped away from the 1-post under Eddie Aceves and received the 2nd call. The brown filly quickly took the lead, gaining 1/2-length by the first call. Fending off a strong challenge by Zoomin Daphne, Betrothen held on and refused to give up the lead. She crossed the finish line a neck to the good in :19.808 for a career-high 101 speed index.
Her strong effort earned an $11,840 paycheck, which takes her earnings to $40,141. Her race record now stands at 6 wins from 15 races, with wins in her last 4 in a row including her Aug. 29 trial to the Merial Sandy Downs Distaff Challenge. Last year, Betrothen was 2nd in the Sandy Downs Distaff Challenge & 3rd in Les Bois Distaff Challenge. This year she’s won both. She seems to be getting better and better with every out.
Betrothen is owned by RTM Stables LLC and trained by Jim Hanson. The 4-year-old filly was bred in California by Ricky & Melinda Overly out of winner Flo Jo Lady. The mare has produced 100% winners/ROM from 3 starters, including stakes- placed El Chino Davalos, an earner of over $60,000 who was the 2009 Calif. Hi-Point Claiming Horse.
Zoomin Daphne (Azoom-La Reina De La Noche) was 2nd under Tyson Lusk for K. C. Carden and Kaul Gerald & trainer Josh Taylor. Absolut Pride (Ketel Won-Sign Of Pride) was 3rd under Jose Figueroa for Darla Barlow and Lukrena & Kylie Schoonover and trainer Garth Blattner. Followed by Dk The Nacho Lady (Separatist-A Special First), She Pays Dividends (Mr Jess Berry-Diversifly), Somebodysknocken (Pyc Paint Your Wagon-Blazin La Jolla), Battle Scar (Fdd Dynasty-Belle Of Colleen), My Fair Dashair (Dashair-Ditto Dotti) & Candies Coconut (Teller Cartel-Eyes For Ev).
