EYESA SPECIAL RIVER
by John Moorehouse
Sweetwater Downs has been, and continues to be, good to Eyesa Special River. The sophomore filly collected her 4th win at that track, and her 2nd in stakes company, with a sharp run to victory in the $21,500 Wyoming Bred Derby held Sept. 5.
Eyesa Special River led at every call of the 400- yard event, pulling away down the stretch to win by 3/4-lengths. Jesse Villegas trains Eyesa Special River, who completed her derby run in :19.504, registering a 103 speed index. Jockey Luis Peralta was aboard for the stakes-winning trip.
Home-bred by the Broken Bones Cattle Co., Eyesa Special River now holds 6 wins in 16 lifetime starts. She won last year’s running of the Wyoming Bred Futurity, also held at Sweetwater, and boosted her cumulative earnings to $30,943 with the $7,525 prize from this victory. Eyesa Special River also finished 3rd in this year’s running of the Wyoming Downs Derby.
The Broken Bones Cattle Co. also owns and bred the dam of Eyesa Special River, Streakin Camilla, who is a stakes winner herself in the 2003 Aberdeen Futurity. The mare has produced 4 starters from 6 foals. Eyesa Special River is the only stakes winner
in the brood.
Villegas also trains Lil Shameless Sage (Eyesa Special Slim-Lil Shameless Angel), the second-place finisher in the derby. Juanita Villegas is the owner and jockey Russell Vicchrilli did the riding. Jeans Lee (Mr Jesse Lee-Heavens An Effort) hit the board in third place for owner William Fox and trainer Mike Taylor. Oscar Cervantes drew the riding assignment. Followed by Uintas Legendary (Legendary Dreamer-Uintas Queen), VVR Calvin Labeck (Coronas Velvet-Get Down Betty Lou), Fly For McKoy (Fit To Fly-Swift Lady Duncan), Jlcjazzslilbro (Bono Jazz-Chasin Banks) & A Special Jess (Jesse James Jr-A Special Wonder). Blue Dagger & Concert Ticket both scratched.

FOR SWEET JESS
by Michael Compton
For Sweet Jess required three lifetime starts to break his maiden, but the speedy two-year-old gray gelding has proven he has a nose for the finish
line since his initial tally back in May. For Sweet
Jess notched his fourth lifetime win from seven outings with a game score in the $31,498 John Deere Evergreen Juvenile Challenge at Grande Prairie in Alberta, Canada, on Aug. 23.
With jockey Ramiro Castillo in the irons, For Sweet Jess pressed early leader Forest Got Skunked from second in the early stages of the 350-yard test. With the pacesetter weakening slightly in the lane, For Sweet Jess remained resolute, forging to the front late. He hit the wire a neck in front of second-place finisher ER Café, stopping the timer in :18.046, which was good for a speed index of 92.
With the win, For Sweet Jess improved his slate to 7-4-1-1. He also increased his bankroll by add- ing the $15,119 winner’s share, taking the total to $23,782 for owner Ruben Magallanes and trainer Hector Maggallanes.
K & R Allred Ranch bred For Sweet Jess in Arizona out of the stakes-winning mare For Some Cash. Winner of the 2001 Phoenix Futurity-G3, For Some Cash is the dam of 6 winners from 7 starters, and For Sweet Jess is her lone stakes winner.
ER Café (Tres Seis-Hawks Halo), with Tyler Walker riding for owner-trainer Donalda Cochrane, settled for 2nd for the 3rd time in 4 lifetime starts.
Forest Got Skunked (Tac It Like A Man-Separate Secrets) flashed his customary early zip under the guidance of jockey Berkley Packer and held third for owner-trainer Dean Frey.
Completing the order of finish were Tickle UR Fancy (Dominyun-Sizzling Lola), Living Is Sweet (One Sweet Jess-Excessive Living-TB), HRH Tres Royale (Tres Seis-Trippers Royal Dash) & Enjoy the Corona (Stel Corona-Enjoy the Walk). Crazy Keeper scratched.

WRAP YOU UP
by Danny Camp
Five out of ten, that’s 50 percent any way you look at it, and that’s what Wrap You Up has done in her short career. She has had different trainers and
different riders, but most importantly she has won her last four in a row. Her latest victory earner her blacktype in the Adequan Grand Prairie Derby Challenge at Evergreen Park in Canada on Aug. 30.
Wrap You Up qualified to the event during the Aug. 16 trials, winning her heat in wire-to-wire fash- ion under Larris Allen for the fastest qualifying time.
Allen was aboard once again for the finals, and the filly was all business as she left the 1-post on the lead. It was a near repeat performance of her trial as she received every call en-route to a 3/4-length vic- tory in :20.457 for the 400-yard dash. The clocking was worth an 87 speed index and the $30,869 nearly doubled her earnings to $62,497.
Wrap You Up is owned by Cedar Creek Tree Farm Ranch and Racing and is trained by Hector Magallanes. The filly was bred in California by Steve D. Burns out of Babe On The Fly. The mare owns
a 101 speed index and was 2nd in the PCQHRA Breeders’ Futurity-G1, Golden State Futurity-G1 and Los Alamitos Million Juvenile-RG3. She has produced 6 blacktype horses, 14 winners and 18 ROM from 22 starters. Her best product is 3-time Graded stakes winner Rock You.
Owners Barry & Janice Sather, who is also the trainer, took the 2nd & 3rd places. Cruisinfourabruisin (First Timber-Tagulator) ran a steady & even race
for 2nd under Ruben Saenz; and Tequila Tuesday (Coronas First Dash-Keep On Keepin On), who was encouraged by rider Jose Rocha, took 3rd. Followed
by Wave Rocker (Wave Carver-Sheza Special Chick), Hrh Burning Corona (Coronas Leaving You- Whatalovelywaytoburn), Augie Meyer (Mac Meyers- Eyes Agouti), First Sassy Timber (First Timber-Sass N Dass) & Stella Wave (Wave Carver-Special Corona).
