ith his victorious run in the $21,867
Masterpiece Paint & Appaloosa Derby, JS Runnin Wire contributed to a big night on July 23 at Fair Meadows for two of his connections. The three- year-old Paint gelding’s jockey, Gonzalo Gutierrez, and trainer Dee Keener also combined their efforts for the winning horse in the Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Juvenile, also held on the same card.
JS Runnin Wire broke on top from the No. 6 hole, promptly opening up a 1-length lead that he maintained throughout the 350 yards. The gelding went on to win by that same distance, finishing the race in :17.827 for a 93 speed index. The $12,990 payday increased his total earnings to $116,283.
The race, which was open to Oklahoma-bred Paints and Appaloosas, marked the third stakes win and sixth overall victory in 16 starts for JS Runnin Wire, who was home-bred by Shirley Wheeler. His other stakes wins were last year’s Pot O’ Gold Futurity-G1 and the Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Derby-G1.
Wheeler also owns and bred Iwilliewantarunner QH, the dam of JS Runnin Wire, who won two of 8 starts, competing in two stakes, one of them graded.
Paint Em A Vision ApHC (Second Painted Sign QH-Emmas Vision) took second under jockey Andrew Samaniego for owner/trainer/breeder Michael Moss.
The Gladiatrix APHA (Gitter Dun -Noumenon QH) finished third under Agustin Silva for owner Jesus Pineda & trainer Salimm Hernandez.

Vby John Moorehouse
eteran gelding JK Wildcat Red made a wire-
to-wire run for another stakes victory, winning the $17,500 Fair Meadows Maturity at Fair Meadows on July 2.
Victor Ibarra trains JK Wildcat Red, who broke
on top from the 3-post, but bobbled emerging from the gates. The gelding led by a head at the first call and going into the stretch, then gained some separation and got to the finish line first by 3/4-lengths.
Rolando Raudales was aboard for the 350-yard trip, completed in :17.598 for a 99 speed index. The $10,500 winner’s share of the purse increased the gelding’s total earnings to $223,422.
Regina Laymon owns JK Wildcat Red, a seven- year-old gelding who was making his 41st career start. The gelding holds a 10-8-4 record and now has three wins in stakes company—all of them registered within the past calendar year. He won the Keokuk Stakes-G3 at Prairie Meadows last July, and also took the Boyd Morris Stakes-G2 at Remington Park in what marked his most recent prior out. That victory made him an overwhelming betting favorite, going off at post time at lopsided 1-5 odds.
JK Running Horses LLC bred JK Wildcat Red and own his dam, Shaky Girl, a 2004 mare. Shaky Girl compiled five wins and a bankroll of nearly $133,000 in her own racing career.
Racing in his third consecutive stakes, BP Primetime (Im A Fancy PYC-BP Southern Mariah) finished second by a neck for owner H.E. Racing LLC and trainer Buddy Clay. L. Salvador Martinez did the riding. Jewels Wagon (Prized Wagon- Flyinfirstclassjewel) took third by a nose in her stakes debut. The filly is owned by Fabiola Calleros and trained by Skeet Ward. Cody Smith was in the irons.
Lota Winnin Wave BC (Lota PYC-Winnin Wave) and Mr Amstel (Good Reason Sa-Wichita Cartel) completed the order of finish.

Bby John Moorehouse
ouncing back from a pair of off-the-board
finishes in Grade 1 stakes events, O Donovan Rossa returned to the winners’ circle on July 24 at Fair Meadows, capturing the $15,000 Walter Merrick Stakes.
The gelding left little to doubt in this one, breaking on top from the No. 3 gate and leading
at every call of the 870 yards. O Donovan Rossa opened up a 3-length advantage by the time he reached the stretch, then coasted to victory, sporting a separation of 2 3/4-lengths as he hit the wire.
Dee Keener trains O Donovan Rossa, who finished the race in :45.654 for a 98 speed index against a 12 mph headwind. Josh Romero had the riding assignment.
Lloyd J. Yother and J. Garvan Kelly own O Donovan Rossa, a four-year-old gelding who logged his fifth victory in 23 lifetime starts and second win in stakes company. O Donovan Rossa won the SLM Big Daddy Stakes-G3 at Remington Park back in March. The $9,000 prize from this event increased his six-figure bankroll to $115,000.
Kelly also bred O Donovan Rossa, who was foaled in Oklahoma out of Shanachee, a 2009 mare whom Kelly also has owns. Shanachee is a fellow stakes winner and six-figure earner.
Bubba Bad (Second Painted Sign-Dashin Di) made a steady run for second. Ray Enlow owns and trains the gelding, who had Roman Cruz in the irons. Bubba Bad has won the Expo Square Stakes twice.
We Call Him Joneson (Furrtreeous-Chics Legacy) finished a distant third. Michael Gavin
is the owner, Gary Walker is the trainer, and Cordarelton Benn had the riding assignment. The gelding has won three races.
My Favorite Sign (Bigtime Favorite-First Painted Sign) and Spotty Politics (Apollitica Blood- Sunspot Babie) completed the order of finish.
