the race on a broken pastern. He never raced again. He sired some good runners, however, including Grey Question, Osage Red and My Question. Question Mark was the broodmare sire of Savannah Jr,
the 1965 All American Futurity winner as well as the 1965 AQHA Racing Champion Two-Year-Old Colt and the 1966 AQHA Racing Champion Three-Year-Old Colt.
The sire of Plaudit was Himyar, who was bred by Major Barak G. Thomas at Dixiana Stud. Himyar made 27 starts with 14 wins, six seconds and four thirds earning $11,650. He won eight stakes, starting with three stakes at two including the Colt Stakes at 6 furlongs. He was the Co-Champion Two-Year-Old Colt. He came back at three to win the Phoenix Stakes, Belle Meade Stakes, and the January Stakes, and he was second in the Kentucky Derby.
The sire of Himyar was Alarm, a horse that is credited with instilling speed into the early Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses. His Quarter Horse ties include
a horse named Wawekus, the broodmare sire of John Wilkins, that is the sire of the famous racehorse and Burnett Ranch sire Joe Hancock. The dam of Himyar is Hira by Lexington, probably the greatest sire to ever live in the foundation of the Thoroughbred and the Quarter Horse.
Himyar is credited with 15 stakes winners, and he did lead the general sire list in 1893. But Himyar’s most important contribution has come through his foals Domino, his full sister Correction, and
Plaudit. So now let’s look at the influence of Domino on the pedigree of Little Request. Little Request was sired by Requested
by Questionnaire by Sting, and Sting was out of Gnat, who was out of Mosquito by Commando by Domino. Questionnaire was out of Miss Puzzle by Disguise by Domino. When we look at the pedigree of the great Three Bars, we see his sire Percentage was out of Gossip Avenue
by Bulse by Disguise, giving Three Bars and Little Request a blood affinity with Disguise appearing in both pedigrees. The dam of Requested is Fair Perdita by Eternal by Sweep by Ben Brush and Sweep was out of Pink Domino by Domino.
Little Wichita was the dam of Little Request, and she was out of Little Visitor by Sweep by Ben Brush and Sweep was out of Pink Domino by Domino. This gives Little Request a breeding pattern of 4x3
to Sweep, a 7x5x6x5 breeding pattern to Domino, and a 7x8x8x6x7x6 to Himyar.
An added note, when the mare Miss Puzzle was bred to Spur, the sire of Sting, she produced Pique, a multiple stakes winner listed above that won his stakes at 5 1/2 to 6 furlongs. This makes Sting and Pique 3/4-brothers.
Another interesting tie between Little Request and Three Bars is through a mare named Sandiway. Sting was sired by Spur, who was out of Auntie Mum, who was out of Adderly, a daughter of Sandiway. The dam of Sting was Gnat, who was out of Mosquito, who was out of Sandfly, a daughter of Sandiway. This gives Sting
a breeding pattern of 4x4 to Sandiway. When we look at the pedigree of Three Bars, we see his dam Myrtle Dee is sired by Luke McLuke, who was out of Midge, a daughter of Sandfly, a daughter of Sandiway. The dam of Myrtle Dee is Civil Maid, who is sired by Patriot, who is out
Joe Hancock traces on his top side to Wawekus who is by Alarm, the sire of Himyar.
Scooper Chick, shown winning the 1964 Josie Bar Stakes, is out of Scoop Bam.
Himyar’s most important contribution has come through his son Domino (shown).
    World Champion
Shue Fly after winning the 1945 World Championship at the New Mexico State Fair.
The pedigree of Three Bars (shown) shows that his sire Percentage was out of Gossip Avenue by Bulse by Disguise, giving Three Bars and Little Request a blood affinity since Disguise appears in both pedigrees.
