EOS A POLITICAL WIN
by Michael Compton
EOS A Political Win registered the second stakes win of his career in the $163,400 Dash for Cash Derby-G3 at Lone Star Park on Oct. 6.
Ridden by Jose Alvarez, the 3-year-old colt bumped at the start, but quickly recovered and scampered to the early lead in the 440-yard test. He sprinted clear by a 1/2-length in the lane and maintained that advantage to the finish, defeating Stone Cold
Leader in a game effort. EOS A Political Win stopped
the timer in :21.397 over a muddy, sealed track, earning a 101 speed index. Rolando Almanza trains the colt.
It was the third consecu- tive win for EOS A Political Win, who captured the Retama Derby on July 28 prior to winning his Sept. 21 trial heat for the Dash for Cash Derby by a head over
a sloppy track. In addition
Miss Roxie Little Futurity
to his back-to-back stakes wins, EOS A Political Win finished third this year in
the Heritage Place Derby-G3 and last year
at two, finished second in the Speedhorse Futurity-G3 and third in the Evangeline Downs Futurity. All told, his record stands at 16-8(2)-4(1)-2(2) and the $65,360 winner’s share of the purse, boosted his total lifetime
earnings to $309,520 for owner Elite Oilfield Services.
Rey & Celia Nieto bred EOS A Political Win out of Pithia, winner of the 2011 Minnesota Stallion Breeders’ Derby and Minnesota Derby. EOS A Political Win is her first starter from four foals.
Stone Cold Leader (Brookstone Bay-Sheza Classy Leader) finished second under Rolando Pina for owner Patrick Richardson and trainer Joe Davis. The
multiple stakes winner also won the Firecracker Derby earlier this year.
Cartel Cupid (Corona Cartel-Lake View Dreams) was elevated from fourth to third after a disqualification. Ricky Ramirez piloted the bay gelding for owners Randy and Sandy Coleman and trainer Blane G. Wood. The gelding fin- ished second in Ruidoso Derby-G1 this year.
T Velocity (Apollitical Jess-Wave Over Phoebe) was fourth and was followed by SR Shambles (Desirio-Parisz), Krash Course (Krash Cartel-Rare Eye Opener) and Lions Express (Freighttrain B-This Cat Purrs), who crossed the wire in third position, but was disqualified and placed 7th. $180,300 Miss Roxie Little Futurity at Indiana Grand Race Course on Oct. 27.
Under jockey Jose Beltran, Dominyun Cartel broke on top from the 2-post. They held the lead throughout, crossing the wire 1/2-length in front and completing the 350 yards in :17.578 to earn a 96 speed index. Erin Thompson trains the colt.

Cartel has now earned a total
of $117,805 and a race record
that stands at three wins
from six races.
Owner/breeder, Brian Gunder, bred Dominyun Cartel out of 2012 Arapahoe Distaff Challenge win-
ner Dreamers Cartel. She was also third in the 2011 Arapahoe Distaff Challenge
and the 2012 Bienvenido De Nuevo Stakes. Dreamers Cartel has produced 100% winners from two starters, including stakes placed Dreamers Liaison. Dominyun Cartel is her first stakes winner and top earner.
“This is a comical little guy,” said trainer Erin Thompson. “He’s cool to be around and is always happy. Even though he’s a stallion, he’s very easy to handle.
“He had a little trouble in the gates in the last set of trials so we put
him in a flipping halter and he’s been perfect ever since,” Thompson continued.
“The colt pulled up nice after the finals, eating and bouncing on the walker. When he goes to the track in the morning, he is a feel good kind of a ride.
“We are going send him home for a few months to rest a bit. Then he will come down to Florida to get legged
