SF HOT PASS
by Michael Cusortelli
Making just his second start of the season, SF Hot Pass won the $20,000 Nevill Stakes at Lone Star Park on Sept. 29.
SF Hot Pass broke well from the 2-gate and took the lead by the top of the stretch, dueling to the wire and stopping the timer in :17.319 for the 350 yards and recorded a career-best 107 speed index while rac- ing against a reported 8-mph head wind. Leon Bard prepped and Francisco Calderon rode the 5-year-old gelding for owner Shannon “Stormy” Fisher.
SF Hot Pass was shortening in distance off a 1 3/4-length victory in the 400-yard $39,750 TQHA Classic Stakes-RG2 at Retama Park on July 27.
Raced in New Mexico and Texas, SF Hot Pass has now won four of 13 starts, and the $11,400 winner’s share of the Nevill Stakes purse from his second career stakes victory increased his earnings to $54,530. SF Hot Pass was also a finalist in last year’s 400-yard West Texas Maturity-G2 at Sunland Park.
The gelding, who was bred by the partnership
of P & J Racing Ltd. and D. Stroebel, is one of five winners from as many starters out of unraced Passem Up Perry. The mare has produced two stakes winners, including Southern Temptation, a half-brother to SF Hot Pass who has won two 550-yard stakes this season.
The Golden Bowl (Mr Eye Opener-First Dashin Bye) and Luis Vivanco ran second for owner Rogelio Marquez Jr. and trainer Fernando Lopez.
Gianni Que (One Famous Gianni-Chalinashake) finished third under Luciano Duenez for owner Sergio J. Guerrro and trainer Angel Sanchez.

Rarin, a 6-year-old campaigned by Olaya Munoz Duarte, sprinted to his second graded stakes vic- tory in the $50,000 James Isaac Hobbs Stakes-G3 at
Zia Park on Sept. 29.
Prepped by Fernando Carrete, Rarin broke on
top from the 6-gate and defeated Apollitical Ok by 1 1/4-lengths while covering 350 yards in wire- to-wire fashion. He stopped the clock in :17.278 and recorded a lifetime-best 107 speed index. Juan Pulido rode the gelding.
A $10,000 claimer during his sophomore season, Rarin has won nine of 26 starts, and the $30,000 winner’s share of the James Isaac Hobbs Stakes purse pushed his bankroll to $174,180, of which $76,820 has been earned from six races this year. Rarin’s other stakes win came earlier this year in the Mighty Deck Three Stakes-RG3 at Remington Park.
Rarin was bred by Kathleen O. Matey out of 2007 Colors of the Wind Handicap winner Rare Kayoh, who also ran third in the TQHA Oaks Stakes. Rare Kayoh has produced 100% money earners from five starters, including top earner Pyro, winner of the 2015 Sam Houston Classic Stakes-G2. Rarin is her third stakes winner.

ZOOMIN RACER
by Michael Cusortelli
Zoomin Racer extended his win streak to three
in the 870-yard $50,000 Herman Jefferson Stakes-G3 at Zia Park on Oct. 6.
Zoomin Racer was bumped early and crossed the wire second, a neck behind Mahoney N Tacklebery, but Zoomin Racer had his number put up on top when his rival was disqualified and placed 7th for veering out from his 2-post. Jansen Melancon rode Zoomin Racer for owner/trainer Jesus J. Carrete. Zoomin Racer stopped the timer in :45.582, and his official margin of victory was a clear 5-lengths over Linda Tee Fire. The gelding was making his first start since July 29, when he scored a 3/4-length win in the 870-yard AQHA Albuquerque Distance Challenge. Zoomin Racer has now won nine of 21 starts,
