GATO MEXICANO
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
The group of 10 runners for this race was completed with the colt Felino Horse, who took the place of
Henryetta Horse, his paternal
sister, after she fractured her right leg in race four of the trials on Sept. 1.
The purse for the
event was $687,540 pesos (approximately $36,193 US), in which Purina Mexico contributed 15%.
Slightly favorite in the odds was Q Tenampita, who qualified with the tenth fastest time in this group, even over Gato Mexicano, who was the fastest qualifier for this consolation.
It was a clean race from
start to finish where everyone
did their best over the flooded surface. Gato Mexicano (#4) set the pace in the initial yards under the energetic command of Moisés Molina Romo. The group chased him and managed to reduce his advantage in the final yards, but the gelding kept to his task, crossing the finish line a neck over Eagle Firefly (#10), who managed
to stick his nose in front of El Pavo Real (#8). Gato Mexicano stopped the timer in :17.42 for the 350 yards equal to a 92 speed index, the best recorded so far by the winner in his four starts.
Gato Mexicano is by Native Cartel and out of Takin Cash SLC, by Takin On The

repurchased by his breeder to be a part of his Cuadra. Gato Mexicano is trained by José Ravel Baltazar in the facilities of the Hipódromo de las Américas.
On Sept. 1, Gato Mexicano got his first win by scoring :17.46 in race 10 of the elimination phase of this futurity, a time that improved slightly in the consolation. For this success, Gato Mexicano added to his earnings $343,770 pesos ($18,096 US approximately).
At the neck of the winner in second was filly Eagle Firefly (Jabuti Eagle-JDS Firefly) under the command of Eddi Cuéllar. She is trained
by Asdruval Sagid Drake Hurtado for Rancho Zacapa and bred by Salome Gallegos.
The Peacock (Danny Cartel-Serenity Starlet) arrived in third place guided by José Ángel Ambrosio Medina for breeder/owner Cuadra La Presita and trainer Pedro Ríos Torres.
The other positions were: Q Tenampita (Tenampa Rooms–Centella Mill), AG
The Perry (Sea Horse Corona–Unknown Source), BR Coronada De Chivali (Southern Corona–Chivali Go), Crisp Horse (Sea Horse Corona–Crisp), GS Corona Crown (Taint Your Wagon–Shes Royal Crown), Felino Horse (Sea Horse Corona–Feminine Feline), and BB Cartel (Watchful Vigilance–B B Good).
