Delta 550 Stakes-RG3
FIRST PRIZE COPY
by John Moorehouse
First Prize Copy led at every call of the Delta 550 on May 16 at Delta Downs, posting his first-ever victory in stakes company. A five-year-old gelding
owned by Ana Alvidrez, First Prize Copy now holds 10 overall wins in 22 starts. The gelding is unde- feated in three outs thus far in 2015, and the $27,000 payday from this triumph increased his cumulative bankroll to $148,623.
This marked the first out for First Prize Copy longer than 400 yards, but the extra distance wasn’t a factor. He broke on top from the inside gate and promptly built a 2-length lead by the first call. First Prize Copy still held a healthy 1 1/2-length advan- tage as he entered the stretch, enough separation to hold off a hard-charging Sir Prize and win by a neck.
Trained by Martin Trejo, First Prize Copy finished the Delta 550 in :27.084 for a 92 speed index. David Alvarez drew the riding assignment. First Prize Copy was the heavy favorite at the betting window at less than even money.
Teddy Mendoza & Patrick Wertz bred First Prize Copy out of Shiney Copy, who is owned by Webb Ranch LLC. Shiney Copy has 7 starters from 10 foals. That list includes 5 winners and 2-time stakes- placed One Rare Copy. First Prize Copy is the first foal out of his dam to log a stakes victory.
Sir Prize (First Prize Perry-Susanna M Salter) was 2nd under Alfonso Lujan for owner Karen Brown & trainer Vann Haywood. T Boy P (King Corona-Got A Project) was 3rd under John Hamilton for owners Lanny Keith & Tommy Davis. Keith also is the trainer. Followed by Rusty Bloom (Jet Cartel-Seattle Bloom TB), Big Timer (Bigtime Favorite-Our Fancy Native), Heza Bell Perry (Heza Fast Dash-De Bell Perry), Jess Leaving You (Coronas Leaving You-Lil Jess Print), Hez Royal William (Hez Fast As Cash- Streakin Diva), King Casady (King Corona-High Top Casady) & Dashin Tee Pie (First To Shine-Tee Pie).
Old South Futurity
NOT PERRY PRETTY
by Michael Compton
Race favorite Not Perry Pretty turned in a solid late rally to push past stubborn long shot Paint Me A Storm to win the $87,225 Old South Futurity
on May 22 at Delta Downs.
With the game victory, Kaitlen Emfinger’s
2-year-old filly remains perfect following two
career starts. Not Perry Pretty won her trial heat
by 2 1/2-lengths in wire-to-wire fashion on May 1, completing 330 yards in :16.965 for the fastest of the main event’s 10 starters. While dismissed at odds of 27-1 in her trial dash, Not Perry Pretty paraded to post as the 3-2 race favorite in the featured event.
Under Raul Ramirez Jr., Not Perry Pretty raced in 3rd position early. The sorrel filly kept to task through the lane and with a strong rally approaching the finish forged to the front late, defeating Paint Me A Storm
by a neck. Not Perry Pretty got the distance in :16.814 and earned a speed index of 87 for trainer Lanny Keith.
Bred in Louisiana by Steve Tate, Not Perry Pretty is out of 2009 Firecracker Futurity-G2 winner TF MS Special Perry. The mare won 2 of 8 career starts, placed in 3 others and bankrolled $115,284 during her racing days. Not Perry Pretty is the first stakes winner for her dam, who has produced 4 winners from 7 starters.
2nd placed Paint Me A Storm (Red Storm Cat-Paint Me Golden), who nearly sprung the upset under John Hamilton, races for Winners Racing
and is trained by Kenneth Weeks. Donald Watson encouraged a fast finish from Noblejessie Inview (Jess Elie-Separatist In View), who closed late for 3rd in
the colors of Mercy Hinklin Horse Farm for trainer Kenneth Roberts. Followed by Coming And Going (Fast Prize Dash-Third N Coming), Over You (TR Dasher-Madonna Effort), TG Coronas Memory
(Jess A Chicks-Memory Cartel), Vipor (Dominyun- Dianetogetcha), Less Effortless (Hawkinson-Madonna Effort), Jess Carter V (Carters Cartel-Jessachild) & BM Casina Royale (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Joyalty).
Old South Derby
TM DEES PRIZE
by Michael Compton
TM Dees Prize finished second to fastest quali-
fier Wild Tycoon in the May 2 trials for Delta Downs’ $53,595 Old South Derby, taking the second fastest time. But, the 3-year-old sorrel gelding turned the tables on that rival in the main event on May 23.
Ridden by Juan Marquez, TM Dees Prize hopped out to a clear early lead from his inside draw. He opened a 1-length lead over Jessjinging in the lane and held the late charge of odds-on favorite Wild Tycoon at bay to the wire, winning by 3/4-length at the finish. TM Dees Prize stopped the timer for 350 yards in :17.206, earning a speed index of 99.
The Old South Derby was the 2nd stakes score for TM Dees Prize, who annexed the 2014 Louisiana Juvenile Stakes at Delta Downs. The gelding, who won at odds of 9-2, is now a winner in 5 of 9 starts and boasts earnings of $100,247.
The Two the Max Investments homebred was foaled in Louisiana out of stakes-winner Call Her Dee. A winner in 3 of 6 lifetime starts, the mare captured the 2008 Bill Hedge Memorial and earned $25,983.
Wild Tycoon (Tempting Dash-First Down Hemp) settled for the place spot under jockey David Alvarez. The 3-year-old gelding was seeking his
5th straight victory and first stakes win for owner Rogelio Marquez Jr. and trainer Martin Trejo.
Jessjinging (Swingin Jess-Jetajing) battled gamely through the lane with Everado Rodriguez up and held 3rd for owner Natalin Carol Gallegos and trainer Carlos Saldivar.
Followed by The Golden Bowl (Mr Eye Opener- First Dashin Bye), Jess A Rogue (Heza Fast Dash- Miss Jess Rogue), in a deadheat for 6th Quite Riot (Swingin Jess-Dashs Co Ed) & Wheres Mom (Heza Fast Dash-Jess Ready Too Wear), then TF Rowdy Lil Perry (Mr Jess Perry-TF MS Special Perry) & Wild On Da Whiskey (Game Patriot-Streakin Amber). Jess Caroline was scratched.
