OLDSMOBILE HILL
by Michael Compton
Some time off agreed with Oldsmobile Hill. In making his first start since February, the 4-year- old colt sprung a mild upset in taking down the top prize in the $26,200 Develop A Plan Stakes-G3 at Delta Downs on May 30.
Dismissed at odds of 14-1, Oldsmobile Hill raced in contention throughout the 350-yard test. With Gerardo Garrido in the irons, Oldsmobile Hill rallied strongly through the lane, getting up to defeat The Eagle Express by a nose at the finish. Oldsmobile Hill, who finished 4th in a stakes outing at Hialeah in his previous start, stopped the timer in :17.439 to earn a speed index of 93 for winning trainer Jesus Garrido.
It was the 2nd stakes score for Oldsmobile Hill, winner of the 2013 Valley Junction Futurity-G3. The $15,000 winner’s share of the Develop A Plan purse increased Oldsmobile Hill’s lifetime bankroll to $202,281. His slate stands at 13-6-0-1 for owners M and G Farms Inc.
Oldsmobile Hill was bred by Steve Burns, DVM in California, and is out of the winning mare Tahma Hawk. In addition to Oldsmobile Hill, Tahma Hawk has also produced stakes winner Stel Hawk and stakes-placed Tamha Hawk Chop and is the dam of 5 winners from 6 starters.
Runner-up The Eagle Express (One Famous Eagle- Rustys Quickid) was also overlooked in the wagering. Sent off at nearly 12-1 odds, the Larry Kopycinski trainee races for Mary G. Lynne Thompson and
was piloted by Alfonso Lujan. Race favorite Cartels Fortune (Carters Cartel-Jewels Fortune) flashed
speed from the inside under Patrick Watson, but was caught late & took 3rd for Rodney Verret & trainer Kenneth Roberts. Followed by Heza Fast Rogue (Heza Fast Dash-Miss Jess Rogue), Sleepers Best Corona (Coronas Propsect-Call Me The Sleeper), The Lizzard King (Valiant Hero-Jess A Lil Bit) & Bradys March Madness (Jess Louisiana Blue-Kokopelli Hills).
