                                Miss Princess Handicap-G3
THE STREAKIN CLEAN
by Tracy Gantz
Athroat infection kept The Streakin Clean away from the races since January. The time off proved beneficial, as she returned to capture the May 10 Miss Princess Handicap at Los Alamitos.
The Streakin Clean, ridden by Oscar Peinado, was bumped at the start but then went right to the front. She gathered momentum and continued put- ting distance on her rivals, ultimately winning by 1 1/4-lengths in :17.523 for the 350 yards.
Jaime Gomez trains The Streakin Clean for owners Leonardo and Javier Olmos. She won The Hawkish Handicap late last year and placed in the Charger Bar Handicap and Cypress Handicap in January. The Streakin Clean was entered in the Feb. 28 Elan Again Handicap, but had to be scratched.
“She woke up with a big lump in her throat,” said Gomez. “We went to school her in the gates, and she was making some strange noises. We scoped her and found she had an infection. We gave her some time off to rest and get well and then brought her back for this race with a couple of workouts to help her get ready.”
H & E Ranch Inc. bred The Streakin Clean in Arizona from Theslatesclean, who won the 2006 AQRA Open Spring Futurity-G3 and Prescott Valley Laddie/Lassie-G3. The mare has produced two starters, both winners.
Girls Can Fly (Foose-Aviatrix), who was com-
ing off a win in the Irvine Handicap, ran 2nd under Carlos Huerta for owner Ed Allred & trainer Scott Willoughby. Elan Again Handicap winner Zigfield Follies (One Famous Eagle-Eye Follies) was 3rd under Cesar DeAlba for owner Veronica Gail Worth & trainer Paul Jones. Followed by Tres Magicals (Tres Seis-Fishers Proud), Bring Me Home (Stel Corona-Bring Me Joy), Trial Of Faith (Separatist-Celestial Being-TB), Larana 09 (Senior Solo-Itsnosecretanymore) & Chalalita (Walk Thru Fire-Chalala). Mrs Pickens (Walk Thru Fire-Pie Maid) lost her rider after the start and did not finish.
La Pacifica Handicap
TAKE A LOOK
by Tracy Gantz
Take A Look comes from the prolific program of owner-breeder Dr. Ed Allred, and she’s been a good one right from the beginning. She became a double stakes winner when she captured the May 9 La Pacifica Handicap at Los Alamitos.
Sent away as the 7-5 favorite, Take A Look
came out of the gate well for jockey Eulices Gomez. Despite taking a bump immediately thereafter, she never faltered. Take A Look led throughout the 350 yards, pulling away midway through for an eventual margin of 1 1/4-lengths in :17.664.
“She’s just getting better as she gets older,” said Jimmy Glenn, who trains her for Allred.
Last year, Take A Look won the California Breeders Freshman Fillies Stakes and placed in the Cash Rate Handicap. She ran second by a head ear- lier this year in the La Primera Del Ano Derby-G3.
Allred bred Take A Look in California from 2-time stakes winner Look Her Over, the 2014 Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year and dam of
7 winners from 11 starters, including 2014 Los Alamitos $2 Million Futurity-G1 winner He Looks Hot, multiple stakes winner Once Over, and stakes- placers Look Of A Dasher & Dashing Over. The 2nd dam, stakes-winning Oh La Proud, also produced Champions Hawkish, Hawkinson & Flame N Flash.
Skinny Jeans (Foose-Sables Sixty Six), recently 3rd
in the La Primera Del Ano Derby, ran 2nd under Oscar Peinado for Nancy Scane & trainer Patricia Visscher. One Prompt JJ (Jesse James Jr-One Prompt Chick), winner
of the Florentine Stakes in Feb. and the 2014 Idaho Cup Futurity, was 3rd under Cruz Mendez for Jorge Navarro & trainer Jose Flores. Followed by One More Card (Carters Cartel-Docs First Card), Run By You (Apollitical Jess-Fovee), Who Is Sylvia (TR Dasher-Kingman Kin), Chowchilla Dreamin (Stel Corona-Million Dreams), Sheza Lolita (Tell Him Twice-Sheza Gator) & Apollitical Legacy (Apollitical Jess-Brazilian Dasher).
Dillingham Handicap
BAC IN FRONT
by Tracy Gantz
Afilly taking on the boys for the first time in a stakes might normally deter bettors. But when that filly was Bac In Front, they didn’t hesitate to bet her down to 3-5 favoritism. Bac In Front rewarded them with a smart victory in the May 16 Dillingham Handicap at Los Alamitos.
At the start, 2nd-choice Amber Bock veered inward toward Bac In Front, but the incident didn’t bother the favorite. With regular pilot Carlos Huerta aboard, Bac In Front dueled with Amber Bock for a few strides, put that rival away, and drew off from the field. The filly won by 1 1/4-lengths in :19.901 for the 400 yards.
“She’s so quick and doing so well right now,” said trainer Jaime Gomez, who felt the filly had a good chance because of the distance. “She is a great finisher.”
Gomez trains Bac In Front for owner Francisco Vega, and the filly is undefeated for Vega in 5 starts. At two, Bac In Front won 1 of 5 races, and she has never finished worse than third. Prior to the Dillingham, she scored in the La Primera Del Ano Derby-G3.
Dr. Steve Burns bred Bac In Front in California from multiple stakes winner Running Bac. A daughter of stakes-placed Game Runner, Running Bac has pro- duced 10 winners from 14 starters, including stakes winner Checknbac and stakes-placed Walkin Bac.
Abigail Kawananakoa’s homebred HRH Walkonfire (Walk Thru Fire-Perrys Darling) ran second for jockey Ramon Sanchez and trainer Paul Jones. HRH Walkonfire has won four of 13 races.
Burns is the co-breeder of third-place Amber Bock (TR Dasher-Merrys Dolly), owned by Juan Humberto Moya, trained by Jose Flores, and ridden by Cruz Mendez. Amber Bock was coming off of back-to-back stakes wins.
Followed by Hot Shot (Walk Thru Fire-Girl Secrets), Closing Time (TR Dasher-Singles Scene), On A Corner (Walk Thru Fire-Kingman Kin) & Famous Bank (One Famous Eagle-Shake The Bank).
