                                    Speedhorse P&A Triple Crown Underway
The 2015 Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Triple Crown is underway, with Painted Turnpike winning the first leg in the $213,500 Grade 1 Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Futurity at Remington Park on May 30. The 2-year-old colt is owned by Nolan Pevehouse, trained by Matt Whitekiller, and was ridden by Cody Smith. This is the 4th year for the Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Triple Crown. The second
race is the Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1 to be held at Tulsa Fair Meadows on July 25, and the third leg is the Speedhorse Lone Star Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1 at Lone Star Park in November. The Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Triple Crown awards two Champions - the Triple Crown Champion and the High Point Champion. The High Point Champion
will receive a $5,000 cash bonus, a crystal trophy and a belt buckle. There has yet to be a Triple Crown Champion, but if there is one, they will receive a 3-Horse Gooseneck 4-Star Trailer donated by 4-Star Trailers, Inc., a $35,000 coupon toward the pur- chase of a SportChassis Hauler donated by SportChassis, a buckle and a Triple Crown Champion cup trophy.
Kansas Racing Bill Halted
After passing the Kansas Senate by an overwhelming margin, a horse racing bill
led by the Kansas Quarter Horse Racing Association (KQHRA) that would have permitted The Woodlands and Eureka
Downs racetracks to re-open and begin
horse racing was handed to the House of Representatives for approval. However, House of Representatives Speaker Ray Merrick, a longtime opponent of horse racing, promised not to bring the bill out for the remainder of the current session and instead carry it over to the 2016 session that begins in January. After making a tremendous effort this year, the KQHR A will likely continue their legislative push for 2016. “We hope to use that momen- tum going into the next legislative session,” stated KQHRA president Rita Osborn. “People tend to underestimate the power those calls can make. No matter the issue or state, everyone must take part when horse racing is at stake.” KQHRA thanks everyone who sup- ported their efforts this year.

ADW Vetoed By Indiana Governor
Indiana Gov. Mike Pence on May 8 vetoed bill HEA 1270 that would allow Indiana residents to use Advance Deposit Wagering (ADW) accounts to bet on horse races. Gov. Pence stated the legislation was contrary to his position against online gaming. Pence
did, however, allow two other bills to become law, including one that increased per diem for Indiana Horse Racing Commission (IHRC) members, allowed the IHRC to use breed development funds to promote the horse racing industry, and codified the current standards regarding days of racing as previously estab- lished by the IHRC.
