Wyoming Vesicular Stomatitis Requirements
The Wyoming Pari-Mutuel Commission and the State of Wyoming requires all live- stock entering the state from a county where Vesicular Stomatitis (VS) has been diagnosed in the previous 14 days or which contains a quarantined site be accompanied by a certifi- cate of veterinary inspection dated within 10 days of entry.
Conviction Overturned For Trainer Huitron
A federal appeals court on May 7 over- turned the 2013 conviction of trainer Eusevio Huitron for his alleged involvement in a money laundering conspiracy with members of the Mexican Zetas Cartel due to lack of evidence. Huitron, who trained Champion Tempting Dash, will likely be released in the next 30 days unless the government asks, and the Fifth Circuit agrees, to rehear the case before a larger panel of judges.
AQHA Opposes Legislation
The American Quarter Horse Association opposes legislation recently introduced in the U.S. Congress that would repeal the Interstate Horse Racing Act to end interstate wagering. AQHA believes the legislation threatens the integrity of the Quarter Horse industry and disregards work the industry
is doing regarding the welfare of the horse, such as the implementation of the AQHA Multiple Medication Violation System to eliminate performance enhancing drugs and their support of racetracks and state commis- sions as they increase testing and security, among other things.
Speedhorse Representative Visits Double Eagle Ranch
Dolli Byron of Speedhorse visited Double Eagle Ranch in Roswell, NM, on May 22, meeting with Bobbie L. Parker and 2009 Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird. Owned by Dr. Leonard Blach and Mark Allen, Mine That Bird earned $2,228,637 and is best known for winning the Kentucky Derby at 50-1 odds. Mine that Bird placed second in the 2009 Preakness and third in the Belmont Stakes.

Elbert Minchey Passes Away
Longtime leading jockey
and trainer Elbert Minchey,
of Boswell, Oklahoma,
passed away May 9 at the
age of 78. Minchey, the
first jockey for Hall of
Fame runner Easy Jet, rode
the earners of more than
$1.8 million. Minchey was proceeded in death by his wife of 35 years, Carol, and is survived by his daughter, Suzi Farris, and many other family members and friends.
Jockey Richard Vasquez Passes Away
Veteran jockey Richard
Vasquez, 51, passed away
May 23 following an
automobile accident in
South Dakota. Vasquez
raced across the U.S.,
including in California,
Iowa, New Mexico,
Oklahoma, South Dakota,
and Texas. Among many
other accomplishments, he won the Black Gold Futurity aboard Ima Lazie Too at Blue Ribbon Downs in 2009, and in 1992 he set a record
for riding nine winning horses from 13 races at Brown County Fair.

24 after suf-
fering from
colic while
standing in Brazil. The 2003 stallion earned over $650,000 winning six stakes, includ-
ing the Zia Park Championships-G1 (twice) and the Championship at Sunland Park-G1. Ketel Won, who was bred and raced by R. D. Hubbard, has sired the earners of over $1.1 million from limited starters. Ketel Won was purchased by Sandro Cancian’s PB Export Ltda in 2014 and was exported to Brazil where he was standing at stud.
