  Dalia Aranda’s Fly On Down sprinted to a three-quarter length win in the June 5, $30,000 Jess Burner Stakes (R) for New Mexico-bred Quarter Horses at Ruidoso Downs.
Ridden by Juan Pulido and racing against a reported 9-mph head wind, Fly On Down covered 400 yards in :20.201 while earning $18,000 from his first career stakes victory. Ebert Munoz prepped the 4-year-old One Handsome Man stallion.
Aranda purchased Fly On Down from breeders Terry and Nan Lane as a yearling for $7,000 at the 2019 New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs. The stallion’s sire, One Handsome Man, is a son of the Mr Jess Perry stallion One Famous Eagle. Raced in Texas and New Mexico from 2012-13, One Handsome Man banked $188,777 from 10 starts, and his three wins included the 2012 Dash For Cash Futurity (G1) at Lone
Star Park.

Derby (G2) winner This Dude Can Fly, One Handsome Man has sired the earners of more than $829,000 from four crops, including 2019 New Mexico Cup Futurity (RG3) third-place finisher Boy With Cash.
Fly On Down is out of Never The Same, a Texas-bred daughter of the Special Effort stallion Strawfly Special. He traces back to his third dam, First Mirage (TB), an unraced Kentucky-bred daughter of 1971 Kentucky Derby winner Riva Ridge. A 1982 foal, First Mirage produced three Thoroughbred stakes winners, including multiple Grade 1 winner Missy’s Mirage, and Grade 1 winner Classy Mirage.
Fly On Down was coming off of a seventh- place finish, one length behind winner HS Golden Eagle, in the May 15, $100,000 Jimmy Drake Stakes (RG3) at SunRay Park. Raced
in two states, including Texas, the stallion has won four of 17 races and has banked $139,265. No Mires A La Luna (First Moonflash-
Dont Looke Ethel) finished second and was followed by Tina Katarina (First Moonflash- Catch This Scooter).
No Mires A La Luna earned the $6,000 runner-up share of the Jess Burner Stakes purse to bring his earnings to $534,505 from 30 races for his owner and breeder, Byron R. Woodard. The 6-year-old First Moonflash gelding’s four stakes wins include last year’s Jess Burner, and he ran third in Apocalyptical Jess’ 2018 All American Futurity (G1).
A 4-year-old daughter of First Moonflash and a $5,000 yearling purchase at the 2019 New Mexico-Bred Sale, Tina Katarina has banked $37,310 from 10 outs for his owner, Edilberto Estrada Cano. The mare’s record includes a third-place finish in last year’s Rita Danley Distaff Stakes (R).
Effortless Candy Cat (TF Featured Effort- Rime Has A Chick), Tuco Salamanca (TF Featured Effort-The Rainbow Rea), My Sweety Pie (Big Daddy Cartel-Siete Menudos), Wisho (Next Bandit-Little Bit Southern) and Money Flashin (First Moonflash-Royal Chamisa) completed the order of finish.
