Shue Fly Stakes-RG2
EVERYBUDDYS TALKIN
by Michael Cusortelli
Third-fastest qualifier, Everybuddys Talkin broke her maiden in the $206,853 Shue Fly Stakes-RG2 for New Mexico-bred 3 year olds at Sunland Park on Jan. 14.
Racing for Eric Pineda of Odessa, Texas, and sent to post at odds of 7-1 in the full field of 10, Everybuddys Talkin broke well in second from the 5-hole and moved into the lead by first call. She held that position to the wire, covering 400 yards in :19.624. Her winning margin
was 3/4-length over 5-2 second choice Daddys Blushing. Raul Herrera rode Everybuddys Talkin for trainer Ricardo Armendariz, who was recording his first graded stakes win.
Campaigned exclusively in New Mexico, Everybuddys Talkin has now banked $112,335 from seven outs with the addition of the $97,221 winner’s share from this race.
The filly began her career with a 2nd-place finish, a nose behind winner and eventual 2-time stakes winner A Jordon Reed, in a 330-yard $16,000 maiden-special-weight at Remington Park on May 5. Everybudys Talkin actually finished on top in a maiden claim- ing race at Zia Park on Sept. 17, 2017, but was disqualified to second for interference.
At the suggestion of Armendariz, Pineda acquired Everybuddys Talkin in a private pur- chase from previous owner Scott Christopher
in October. “When we got this filly to Sunland Park,
I told Eric that I thought
she had a really good shot
to qualify for the Shue Fly, but we had to supplement her (for $10,000) to the tri- als,” Armendariz said. “I’ve had this filly for about four months now, and she’s really adapted well to our program.
“She was training really
well leading up to this race,” he
added. “I worked with her in the gates a few times to try to quiet her down a little, and on race day she had that confident look in her eye. I knew that if we got a good break, we’d have a shot.”
Armendariz added that the filly would be pointed to the Zia Derby-RG2 at Ruidoso Downs in July and the New Mexico Cup Derby-RG2 at Zia Park in October.
Everybuddys Talkin was bred by Derrell Riggan of Merkel, Texas, and the filly ended
her juvenile campaign with a 2nd-place finish, a neck behind 2nd-fastest qualifier Frangellica, in the last of 4 Shue Fly trials on Dec. 22. The filly is 1 of 4 winners from as many starters produced by Kat Kora, a 2-time winner who ran 4th in the 2008 AQHA New Mexico Juvenile Challenge
Stakes-G3 at Ruidoso Downs. Everybuddys Talkin is a full sister to 4-time winner DM Ada Kat, who ran 2nd in
the 2016 KOFX-FM Radio Handicap-G2. Her 2nd dam, winner Famous Poet, produced 2 graded stakes placed runners.
The 4th-fastest qualifier, Daddys Blushing (Big Daddy Cartel-Sandy June Bug) was prepped by Jackie Riddle for owner Gary W. Hartstack, who
acquired the multiple stakes winning gelding for $14,000 at the 2016 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. Francisco Calderon rode Daddys Blushing.
Daddys Copy (Big Daddy Cartel-Fast Copy Miss) outran her 24-1 odds to finish 3rd under Omar Reyes for Mac and Janis Murray’s MJ Farms and trainer Wes Giles.
Followed by Flashin Cartel (First Moonflash- Kasting Kouch), First N Forever (First Moonflash-Eye Am Forever Yours), Scooters Crown Jewel (Jesse James Jr-Catch This Scooter), Leftlane (Big Daddy Cartel-Champagne Perry), fastest qualifier & 11-10 favorite Regard The Rose (Chicks Regard-Not Sable Shes Rose), Frangellica (Big Daddy Cartel-Tangled Vines), & Jesse Klee (Jesse James Jr-Ms Klee).
