B And G Fast Dash was apparently waiting his whole career to try distance races. Once he started racing around the hook, he has been almost unstoppable, making him a worthy Distance Champion.
Louisiana can take pride in B And G Fast Dash’s accomplishments, as well as that of
the gelding’s trainer, Kenneth Roberts Sr. B & G Group Investments Inc. bred B And G Fast Dash in Louisiana, which is also Roberts’ home state.
The gelding and trainer had a fabulous year in 2017, with Roberts also being named the Blane Schvaneveldt Champion Trainer.
Owner Oscar Rohne and Roberts had previously collaborated on such horses as graded stakes winner La Mos Chingono,
and Roberts began training B And G Fast Dash for Rohne in 2014. In 2016, Rohne sold an interest in the gelding to Mary Lynne Thompson, and the two campaign B And G Fast Dash in the name of Mo Racing.
With the added encouragement of jockey Donald Watson, Roberts first tried B And G Fast Dash at 870 yards in mid-2016.
The gelding won three of four races at that distance to finish out the year before beginning his championship season.
Roberts tuned him up in the Virgil Bond Stakes at Delta Downs, where B And G Fast Dash finished third after an awkward start.
Then the gelding went on a tear, with three consecutive stakes victories, two of them in races he had won the previous season.
At Delta Downs he smoked the competition by 3 1/2-lengths in winning his second Live Oak Stakes before moving to the Fair Grounds, where he added the Faubourg St. John Stakes, also for the second consecutive year. B And G Fast Dash outdid himself in the 2017 Faubourg St. John, setting a New Track Record of :44.986 while winning by 2-lengths.
B And G Fast Dash’s third stakes came
at Evangeline Downs in the Races And Aces Stakes. As the 7-10 favorite and with Watson once again in the saddle, he came away in last from the gate, but quickly rallied and won by 1 1/2-lengths.
