after a rough trip and disqualification from fourth to 10th in the July 14 Vinton Stakes at Delta Downs, Lil Jess Oak was out for revenge. In the Aug. 16 Treme Stakes at the Fair Grounds, the gelding again faced Intriguing Jess Blue, Tachas Got Game, and Sweets Dashin Bye, the first three finishers in the Vinton, and this time Lil Jess Oak came out on top.
Over a sloppy, sealed track and breaking from the rail, Lil Jess Oak scrambled
a bit when the gate opened, causing him to get off a jump slowly. He overcame that quickly under jockey Donald Watson, however, and vied with Coors Select to the wire. Lil Jess Oak, let go at more than 10-1, prevailed by a nose, running the 350 yards in :17.443. Favored AJS Fast Dash never got into gear
and finished seventh.
Kevin Broussard trains Lil Jess Oak for
Gerald Libersat, who races the gelding and bred him in Louisiana. Lil Jess Oak has competed entirely in his home state, and while this is his first stakes victory, he has performed consistently. In 11 lifetime starts, he has four wins, four seconds, and one third. The Treme raised his earnings to $83,321.
A son of the stallion Oak Tree Special, Lil Jess Oak is out of Libersat’s homebred placed Mr Jess Perry mare Lil Jess Print. Three of the mare’s four starters have won, and with this win, Lil Jess Oak is her first stakes winner.
Coors Select (Oak Tree Special-Miss Coors Cartel) took second under jockey Gilbert Ortiz. Fifth in the Vinton, the gelding is a multiple stakes winner who
captured the Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile-RG2 last year. Alvin Brossette trains Coors Select for owner Polly Coleman. Earlier this year, he was second in the Delta Derby.
John Hamilton piloted Intriguing Jess
Blue (Jess Louisiana Blue-Call Me Intriguing) to third for trainer Willie Simien Jr. Yadira Alvarado owns Intriguing Jess Blue, who in addition to the Vinton won last year’s LQHBA Invitational Stakes at Evangeline Downs.
Completing the field were Unquestionable (Oak Tree Special-Real Or Imagined), Sweets Dashin Bye (Dashin Bye-Ms Sweet Goodby), Tachas Got Game (Game Patriot-Tacha
La Jolla), AJS Fast Dash (Heza Fast Dash- Snows Refrigerator), Cadillac Kind (Panther Mountain-Corona Mon Amie), and JW First (First Comment-Mingling Magic). Rapid Transit was scratched.

abounceback 2012 campaign continued for La Mos Chingono, as she outdueled Unrealistic to win the $40,000 Audubon Stakes held Aug. 18 at the Fair Grounds.
After going winless in five outs last year, La Mos Chingono holds two victories—both in stakes company—in three starts this season for Oscar Rohne. This payday helped La Mos Chingono reach an earnings milestone as well, with the $24,000 sum push-
ing her career bankroll to a
new total of $210,490.
A 5-year-old mare, La Mos Chingono improved her overall record to 6-4-2 in 15 starts. The win total includes three stakes victories—the 2010 Who Dat Derby also held at the Fair Grounds, and the 2012 Party Girl Stakes.
Heza Fast Dash sired both La Mos Chingono and Unrealistic, the
Audubon runner-up. Those two battled for the lead for the majority of this 350-yard event. Unrealistic was running first as the
two horses reached first call, but La Mos Chingono chugged into the lead shortly thereafter, gaining seperation by a half-length. Unrealistic made one final push, but La Mos Chingono held her off to win by a neck.
Trainer Kenneth Roberts Sr. saddled La Mos Chingono, who com- pleted the event in :17.373
and tallied a 104 speed index on a sloppy sealed track. John Hamilton did the riding. In total, La Mos Chingono has hit the board eight times in stakes company, including a third in this race last year.
Robicheaux Ranch bred La Mos Chingono out of Rita Regent. A 2002 mare, Rita Regent has produced four starters among six total
offspring. La Mos Chingono is the only stakes winner, but two other foals have competed in graded stakes finals.
Unrealistic (Heza Fast Dash-Real Or Imagined) is owned by Gerald D. Libersat and trained by Kevin Broussard. Donald Watson was aboard. Streakin World (Worldly Man- Streak Forit) hit the board for Jimmie Hatcher. The Christopher Blanchet trainee had jockey Gilbert Ortiz up.
The remaining order of finish was Dash For Alexis (Dashin Bye-Kdwantsafastone), LBS Miamis Cash (Rakin In The Cash- Streakin In Miami), Pantherinthefastlane (Panther Mountain-Sheza Neon Rose), Jessalittlecourage (Jess Louisiana Blue-Faith And Courage) and Flamboyant Chick (Toast To Dash-Hempen Chick). Corona Dashin Bye was scratched.
