acouple of traditions were carried on dur- ing the weekend of Aug. 11-12 in Idaho. First, Les Bois Park continued with its first horse racing meet at that track in four years. Then, in the Idaho Cup Futurity, The Midnite Caller followed in the footsteps of his dam by recording his first stakes victory.
After getting bumped early, The Midnite Caller recovered and beat Cruzn By to the wire by three-quarters of a
length to claim the winner’s
share of the $22,374 purse in the Aug. 11 futurity. The Midnite Caller broke his maiden in his fifth career out, and the 2-year-old geld- ing’s lifetime earnings now stand at $10,934.
Laura Southworth and Jerry and Marta Loveland bred and own The Midnite Caller, who completed the competition in :17.678,
posting a 99 speed index. He clocked a :17.634 to tally the second-quickest qualify- ing time. Wild Beach, the fastest qualifier, scratched from the Idaho Cup Futurity.
Brent Bowman trains The Midnite Caller, who was ridden by jockey Jess Chance.
While he is now a stakes winner, The Midnite Caller has a ways to go to equal the impressive record compiled by his dam, Cee
The Blurr. A 1989 mare whom the Lovelands and Southworth also own, Cee The Blurr posted five stakes wins—all in restricted or graded races—as part of a 57-race career that included 20 wins and 42 in-the-money finishes, as well as three new track records. All eight of Cee The Blurr’s foals have made starts, and six are winners. The Midnite Caller becomes the second offspring to tally a
stakes victory, joining his half-sister Luck Cee A Lady, who finished first in the 2002 Idaho Cup Futurity-RG3.
Spackman Racing owns runner-up Cruzn By (Jumpn-Transforming Bruce), a Lin Melton trainee who had Jordan Hadley aboard.
Lil Dip A Nitro (Royal Miracle Dip- Attract), the pre-race favorite, finished third for Dawna Jenkins and Dennis Cain. Prepped by Dru Hall, the gelding had Dirk Crane up.
The remaining order of finish in the Idaho Cup Futurity was HP Aceman (First I Am-Callinaroyalprincess), DK Rockin Roger (Stoli-First Down Bunny), Easy To Be Nuts (Hadtobenuts-Easy As Ice), Eyesa Knight (Eyesa Special-Hot Summer Nights), Shez Brimm (Brimmerton-Shez Changing Ways) and Better Be Righteous (Righteous Brother- For The Better).

sometimes staying clear of trouble can be the key to victory. Jockey Nate Smith kept Bogue away from most of the bumping during the Aug. 10 Knight Transportation Futurity at Les Bois Park, and they were rewarded with the win.
Bogue broke on top in the 350-yard stakes, which kept the gelding in the clear. Secret Sweetheart drifted in from post six and bumped hard, while Clever
Dexter broke in sharply. The
two incidents compromised
the chances of favored Ms
Eaves, Pappadeano, and One
Famous Secret.
Bogue never relinquished his lead, and while Lookin Good Abe closed, he came up a nose short. Bogue won in :17.702. Following the race, the stewards dis- qualified third-place finisher Secret Sweetheart to fifth.

Gary Simpson trains Bogue for owners David and Julie Waddell. The gelding has started five times, all at Les Bois, winning a maiden race and finishing second in his trial.
Bobby Cox bred Bogue in Texas by cross- ing Brimmerton with the Thoroughbred mare Cool N Sixy. The mare earned $74,429 on the track, winning the 2000 Silver Spur Maiden Stakes at Lone Star Park and Honeymoon
Stakes at Retama Park. She also finished second in that year’s Friendship Stakes at Louisiana Downs. Cool N Sixy has produced six winners from 10 Quarter Horse start- ers, including Sixy Injun, who finished second in the 2005 Dixie Stallion Futurity-RG3.
Runner-up Lookin Good Abe (Looking For Chicks-A Societys Lass) has won two trials and also finished third in the Gem County Futurity.
Dirk Crane has ridden him in all of his starts, and Jay Pitcher bred, owns, and trains the stakes-placed gelding.
Buzzed On Coronas (Stel Corona-Buzz Chick) finished fourth but was moved up to third upon Secret Sweetheart’s disqualifica- tion. Justin Vanderwoude rode the filly for trainer Freddie Olmos, who owns her with Pedro Olmos. Buzzed On Coronas has won one other race in four starts.
Rounding out the field were Gold Metal Jake (Gold Medal Jess-Ou La La Cheri), Secret Sweetheart (Dashair-Donnasecret), Pappadeano (Pappasito-Proud Moon Bug), Ms Eaves (Tres Seis-Little Ms Tuff Stuff), One Famous Secret (One Famous Eagle- Secretively), Chicas First Wonder (Makin A Wonder-Chickapee), and Clever Dexter (Ivory James-Smart Little Liz).
