SEND ME THIS WAGON
by Michael Compton
Prairie Meadows shipper Send Me This Wagon made her initial start at Los Alamitos a winning one, prov- ing best in the $25,000 AQHA Members Plus Stakes on
Oct. 29 at the Orange County, California track. The Michael Pohl homebred veered in and
bumped at the start and raced in 8th early under Jorge Torres. The 5-year-old mare rallied strongly in the lane, however, collaring pacesetter You Can Fly nearing the wire and beating that rival by a nose at the finish. Send Me This Wagon covered the 400 yards in :19.748, earning a speed index of 92 for trainer Stacy Charette-Hill.
The win marked the third stakes victory for Send Me This Wagon, who also annexed the 2014 Canterbury Park Derby and the 2015 Canterbury Distaff Bonus Challenge and now boasts earnings of $155,710. She improved her record to 18-9-4-1.
Bred in Oklahoma, Send Me This Wagon is produced from the winning mare Jess Send Candy and is a full sibling to multiple graded stakes winner This Candys Awesome, stakes winner Honeymoon Candy, and a half-sister to Jess Good Candy.
You Can Fly (Walk Thru Fire-Babe On the Fly) and Cody Jensen just missed and took 2nd for owner Steve Burns and trainer Michael Casselman. Juan Jose Romo Jr.’s First N Final (Favorite Cartel-Tiny First Down) finished 3rd under Ramon Sanchez for trainer Valentin Zamudio. Followed by Apolitical Zoom (Apollitical Jess-K D Zoom), Run by You (Apollitical Jess-Fovee), Favorite Bet (Favorite Cartel-Miss Kittys Bar Bet), Tallulah Moon (Corona Cartel-Splendifferous), Political Chick (Apollitical Jess-Fearless Chick), Devilwitha Bluedress (Corona Cartel-Run the Dash) and Racy Fire (Walk Thru Fire-Miss Racy Jess).
Nutrena Stakes
HE LOOKS HOT
by Michael Cusortelli
Sent to post as the 1-2 favorite in a field of six, Ed Allred’s He Looks Hot responded with a wire-to- wire victory in the $25,000 Nutrena Stakes at Los Alamitos on Oct. 29.
He Looks Hot covered 440 yards in a hand- timed :21.180, and the homebred 4-year-old geld- ing’s winning margin was 1 1/2-lengths from 5-1 second choice Freakin Runaway. Carlos Huerta rode He Looks Hot for trainer Scott Willoughby.
Raced exclusively in California, He Looks Hot has won five of 13 starts, and the $12,500 winner’s share of the Nutrena Stakes purse pushed his bankroll to $977,485, of which $890,970 was banked during
a 2-year-old campaign in which he won the Grade 1, 400-yard Los Alamitos Two-Million Futurity. The gelding is scheduled to make his next start in the $600,000 Champion of Champions-G1 on Dec. 10.
He Looks Hot was bred in California out of mul- tiple stakes winner Look Her Over. She has produced 100% money earners from 15 starters, including stakes winners Once Over and Take A Look. He Looks Hot is her top earner.
Freakin Runaway (Ocean Runaway-Streakin Freakin) races for Michael S. Amburn. A two-time allowance winner during the Ruidoso Downs summer meet, the 4-year-old graded stakes placed gelding was ridden by Rodrigo Aceves for trainer Mike Robbins. Fulton Quien Sabe Ranches’ He Is The Risingstar (Mr Jess Perry-Meddlin Mischief) finished third. Jesus Ayala rode the 4-year-old geld- ing for trainer Paul Jones.
Jake Gold BR (Gold Medal Jess-Charlotte Bryan), Old Six Six (Walk Thru Fire-Kingman Kin), and Chicks Fayvorite (Favorite Cartel-Chicks Tell) completed the order of finish.
Wrangler Stakes
ZOOMIN FOR SPUDS
by John Moorehouse
Zoomin For Spuds picked up his fifth career stakes victory, winning the $25,000 Wrangler Stakes in convincing fashion at Los Alamitos on Oct. 29. Trained by Monty Arrossa, Zoomin For Spuds broke well from the 4-gate and was running a close second at the first call. Jockey Cruz Mendez urged Zoomin For Spuds to the front shortly thereafter, and he led by a 1/2-length going into the stretch before widening the gap to 3/4-length as he hit the wire.
The sophomore gelding made the 400-yard trip in :19.556, posting a 97 speed index.
The three-year-old gelding has enjoyed a stellar sophomore campaign. Four of his five stakes wins have come this year at Los Alamitos and, of his six total triumphs, five are in stakes company. The $11,500 payday from the Wrangler Stakes pushed Zoomin For Spuds’ total bankroll to $107,293.
Jim Walker owns and bred Zoomin For Spuds, out of winner A Perfect Cocktail. She has produced 100% money earners from four starters, including stakes winner’s Bux For Cocktail and Jesses Perfect One. Zoomin For Spuds is her top earner.
Arrossa also trains Katies Easy Moves (Maknmoves-Katie Lane Finder), who finished second for owners O-So Smart, LLC and Walter Finder under Jordan Hadley. Timely Delivery (Volcom-One Prompt Chick) finished third under Jesus Ayala for owners Mark and Peggy Brown and trainer Rafael Orozco.
Uno Corona Mas (One Sweet Jess-Corona
Mas Fina), My Favorite Check (Favorite Cartel-Six Checks), Stel Easy (Stel Corona-Fames Easy), Fames Jess Sweet (One Sweet Jess-Go For Fame), Tres Sea (Tres Seis-Runaway Wave), Fowl Play (Royal Shake Em-Behavin Cartel) and Shez A Motor Scooter (Heza Motor Scooter-Ditto Dotti) completed the field.
