SENOR CAWBOY
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
This is an open race for Mexican individu- als of three years or older, with 11 signing up to compete for a prize of $170,600 pesos (approximately $8,706 US) for 350 yards. As in previous years, it was a gathering of high caliber runners.
La Chemita, Mojito Limes, Silver Perry, Una Sola, RD Native, and the always dreaded Senor Cawboy were the most notable names and these took the favored odds because of their background in high performance racing.
At the departure, Senor Cawboy (#6) and RD Native (#9) were noted for their speed and accuracy to command the group. They stayed ahead with obvious superiority and crossed the finish line in that order by the difference of a neck by the colt over the filly. The win- ning mount was credited to the record of rider Rodrigo Vallejo, who helped the three year
old finish with a time of :17.36 for a 94 speed index. Senor Cawboy will add to his record $102,360 pesos (approximately $5,223 US).
Senor Cawboy, who closed with odds of 2.50, added to the awards he won in 2015, among which include the Selecta Auction Futurity, which earned him the titles of
AQHA Mexican Champion,
Champion Two-Year-Old
Mexican, and Best Individual
Mexican. In the current
season, he was second in the
Mexican Derby and partici-
pated in the Felix Bañuelos
Clasico, where a bad start over a waterlogged track sent him to eighth place. With the Salvador Oñate Clasico, he seems to have resumed winning races of this level.
Senor Cawboy is owned by Rancho San Pedro PZH and is trained by Jose Baltazar Ravel. The colt is of breeding from Cuadra La Presita (Dr. Anselmo Aguilar), owner of stallion Senior Solo and the mare Takin Cash SLC (by Takin On The Cash). From this same breeder came Una Sola (Bullish One - Sola Gold, by Senior Solo), winner of this stakes in 2015.
It is important to note that the three win- ners in the Breeders Cup were bred in Cuadra La Presita and are progeny of Senior Solo, a son of Mr Jess Perry and out of the mare Tylers First Down (by First Down Dash). First Down Dash is also the sire of Bullish One, the sire of Una Sola and of stakes winners La Cyty One
In second was RD Native (Native Cartel - Red Gucci Shoes) for Cuadra Las Palmas and trainer Andres Camilo The filly comes from the

Mojito Limes (Skyy On Ice - Special Orphan) placed third under the direction of Martin Hernandez Bautista. The colt belongs to Cuadra El Zurco, was saddled by Humberto Efren Esqueda Ortiz, and bred by Efren Garcia Ramirez.
Other positions at the finish line were as fol- lows: La Chemita (Bullish One – Consistently), Una Sola (Bullish One – Sola Gold), Solo Heart (Senior Solo – Break Your Heart), Estamos Cía (Aguerrido Cash – Lady Anna Girl), Down Six Corona (MSR Corona Classic – Feet Down Six), Silver Perry (Jesstified – Ziplock Chick), Capote First (First Prize I Am – Keshas Cash Chick) & Sea Corona Cash (Sea Horse Corona – Streakin With Cash).
