 AQhA Members Plus Stakes
CRuZin the WAGon
by Stacy Pigott
Cruzin The Wagon added to an already impres- sive record by scoring her fifth stakes win in the $25,000 AQHA Members Plus Stakes for 3-year-old
and older fillies and mares at Prairie Meadows. Owned by Mary Louise and Terry C. Pursel, Cruzin The Wagon last year won the Northlands
Futurity-G3 and Valley Junction Futurity-G3. This year, she captured the Oklahoma Derby and Jack Brooks Stakes-RG3, setting a 350-yard track record at Remington Park in the latter.
Ridden by Stormy Smith in the Oct. 27 AQHA Members Plus, Cruzin The Wagon broke sharply from the two post and led for nearly every step of the 400 yards. Dont Look Ethel tried to close ground
on the outside, coming within a half-length of
the winner at the wire. Sent off favored for trainer Brent Clay, Cruzin The Wagon stopped the clock in :19.758, earning $12,250.
Bred by Michael Pohl, Cruzin The Wagon is
sole winner out of Penelope Cruzin, winner of the 2006 Governor’s Stakes at Hoosier Park. Cruzin The Wagon is from Penelope Cruzin’s first crop of four foals, two of which raced. She also has two 2-year- olds, one of which has started.
Matt Whitekiller owns and trains runner-
up Dont Look Ethel (Streak And Dash- Thelastdanceismine). Cody Smith rode the 4-year-old mare, who most recently won the Prairie Meadows Bonus Challenge and had a three-race win- ning streak snapped in the AQHA Members Plus.
Nancy McCoy’s Wave Corona (Wave Carver- Corona With Ice) was third with Russel Hadley up for trainer Charles Hunt.
Tac It Like A Woman (Tac It Like A Man-Stayin On Task) was fourth, followed by Streakin Rare (Fredricksburg-Regally Rare), Cedar Creek (Oak Tree Special-Midnite Celebration) and Ballroom Gal (Corona For Me-A Runnin Ballerina).

hastabealeader has never finished lower than fourth in nine starts this year, and added another stakes win to his record with his most recent start in the
$25,000 Markel Stakes on Oct. 27 at Prairie Meadows. Owned by Gloria Myers, of Ipswich, South Dakota, Hastabealeader won the Northern Plains Futurity, was second in the North Central QHRA Futurity, third in the Minnesota Stallion Breeders’ Futurity, and fourth in the Prairie Meadows Juvenile Challenge.
In the Markel, Hastabealeader broke heads up with SM Lookatthatfurr, who was fractious in the gates before breaking in slightly to take the early lead. Those two rivals hooked up at the front of the field, with Hastabealeader getting stronger through the 350 yards while SM Lookatthatfurr faded late. Ridden by Clyde Smith for trainer Robert Johnson, Hastabealeader won by three-quarters of a length and covered the distance in :17.871. The $11,500 winner’s share of the purse increased his earnings to $44,489.
Bred by Wardell Quarter Horses, of Moorcroft, Wyoming, Hastabealeader is the second foal
of the multiple graded stakes-placed mare Leadmetoyourladder. Her first foal was placed once in four starts as a 2-year-old.
Notdonebaby (FDD Dynasty-Andelay Baby Andalay) broke her maiden in her last start for owner John Lawless. Stormy Smith rode the filly for trainer Brent Clay. Huntin Ivory (Ivory James-Baja Rosa) was third for owners Starlet Hunt and David Tolle. Charles Hunt trains the gelding.
