Hialeah barns open Dec. 1 and the first day of racing is Dec. 15, 2012. Purses are expected to average $120,000 per day with eight Quarter Horse races running each day through Feb. 17.
Attendance, Handle Decline At Albuquerque
According to figures provided by Equibase. com, on-track attendance for the 54-day meet at The Downs at Albuquerque, which ended Nov. 4, was down 10.5% to 64,523, on- and off-track wagering on live racing was down 10.4% to $6,689,178, and on-track handle decreased 19% to $2,461,221 compared to last year. A total of $4,680,500 was paid in purses, down 4.2% from last year.

2005. In nine mounts Medellin won the first seven races he rode followed by a second- and third-place finish. Medellin won the first race,
a 330-yard Quarter Horse maiden race, with 3-2 favorite Blazin Mr Perry. He did not ride the second or third races. In the fourth race he piloted Asian Brook, the longest shot at 15-1, to victory in a 400-yard Quarter Horse allowance race. The rest of his wins came aboard Thor- oughbreds. Medellin, 36, has been riding in the United States for five years since moving from his hometown of Mexico City.
Alberta Yearling Sale
The Alberta Quarter Horse Racing Associa- tion Yearling and Mixed Sale was held at the Lethbridge Exhibition Sales Pavilion in Alberta, Canada, on Sept. 29. Of the 46 consign- ments, 11 were repurchased, 14 scratched,
and 21 sold for a total of $67,300. The high seller at $12,000 was Hip #18, Sailin Separate Ways (Separatist-High Plains Bunny, Dash To Chivato). The bay yearling filly is out of a stakes placed winning half-sister to the dam of Kinder- garten Futurity-G1 winner West Coast Hawk
Speedhorse Crowns Paint & Appaloosa High-Point Champion Super Glide Harley
Speedhorse crowned Super Glide Harley APHA (Awesome Chrome-Biker Chick) as the first Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa High-Point Champion following the $103,762 Grade 1 Lone Star Paint & Appaloosa Futurity on Nov. 3. Super Glide Harley finished third in the first leg of the Triple Crown, the $240,760 Speed- horse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Futurity at Remington Park on May 26, second in the sec- ond leg, the $109,988 Speedhorse Paint & Ap- paloosa Futurity at Fair Meadows, and second in the third and final leg in the $103,762 Lone Star Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity at Lone Star Park. For the 2-year-old gelding’s ac- complishment, owner/breeder Shirley Wheeler wins a trophy and belt buckle, along with an additional $2,500 donated by High-Point Champion sponsor RaMax Farms.
Remington Park Stewards Issue First Dermorphin Ruling On Trainer Sanchez-Munoz
Remington Park stewards issued their first positive test ruling for the Class 1 drug der- morphin on trainer Roberto Sanchez-Munoz, who was cited for 10 different horses running during the track’s Quarter Horse meet. Sanchez- Munoz’s brother and assistant trainer Alejandro Sanchez-Munoz was also cited, as he is equally responsible under Oklahoma’s trainer rule. Their cases have been referred to the Oklahoma Racing Commission. Stewards recommended the Commission assess penalties greater than the maximum of one-year suspension, $2,500 fine and loss of purse for each positive. Both men may appeal, but a ruling is expected at the Commissions Nov. 15 meeting.
LQHBA Fall Mixed Sale Held In Late October
The Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders’ Association Fall Mixed Sale was held at The Pavilion at Coushatta Casino Resort in Kinder, Louisiana on Oct. 27. A total of 175 horses were consigned to the sale. There were 26 outs, 37 repurchases and 112 horses selling for $343,400
with an average selling price of $2,305, includ- ing repurchases. The highest-seller was hip #138, Blaze Forward (Look Forward-Fishers Prissy Lady, Fishers Dash), a 2011 gray gelding consigned by Lynnette Douget and purchased by Cecil Walker for $14,500.
Fair Meadows To Close
The Tulsa County Fair board on Nov. 1 unanimously voted to shutter racing at Fair Meadows at Tulsa at the end of 2012. The Oklahoma track has been in operation since 1989. The Muscogee (Creek) Nation entered into a long-term agreement with the fairgrounds that includes a $120,000 per month payment
to put its name on the event center, which will be called the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Center, as well as the first right to develop land now oc- cupied by Drillers Stadium. The agreement runs through 2019, but will stay in effect beyond that date as long as the state’s Indian tribes have a gaming compact with Remington Park and Will Rogers Downs.
Florida QHRA Elects Board Members
On Nov. 10 at their annual membership meeting, the Florida Quarter Horse Racing As- sociation elected Ron Smith, an AQHA director from Georgia and the Georgia Quarter Horse Racing Association president, and Floridian Gerald Keesling, long-time Quarter Horse race owner and breeder, to their board of directors.
Hialeah Racing Rules
According to Florida Quarter Horse Rac- ing Association President Steve Fisch, Hialeah Park will not require piroplasmosis tests for horses entering the facility for the upcoming 2012/2013 Quarter Horse meet. Hialeah will have drug testing equal to the most stringent in the country and Hialeah’s House Medication rules will go by Association of Racing Commis- sioner International’s Model Rules of Racing.
