Inaugural Classic
BEER WAGON
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
The action returned once again to the Hipodromo de las Americas on Jan. 20. The following day, racing began with the tradi- tional Inaugural Classic in which 12 runners of four years or older were entered into the $496,400 pesos ($26,636 US approximately) event that is run at 350 yards.
There was a full gate, and great expecta- tion for the opening of the 75th anniversary of the racetrack in the capitol city. Attention was focused on Chics Love Curls and Beer Wagon, due to the sporting rivalry that was established in the Champion of Champions Classic where they came in third and fifth place despite Chics Love Curls being a favorite. As was pre- viously reported, that traditional race was won by the amazing Jess La Jolla Blue.
The moment of action had arrived for the first glimpse of the 12 runners as they were approached by their respective riders. They took their positions, and the announcer began to narrate the race for the attendees .
Moon Racer Napoleón had a delayed start and drove towards the interior. The group advanced, and yards ahead, DM Mary Corona
and Tempting Splash Dash bumped very close to the inner railing, while Chics Love Curls, ridden by José Manuel Cisneros, showed off his explosive speed. On
his right side, Beer Wagon responded to the demands of Israel Dominguez Morales, crossing the wire 1⁄2-length ahead and leaving second place to Puddles Cash, who surpassed Y Paint Paris. Chics Love Curls closed in fourth place, having in 2017 become the winner of this classic by 2-lengths over

just :17.25 for Beer Wagon to
snatch the crown and set a speed rating of 97.
The four-year-old bay colt is the son of PYC Paint Your Wagon and out of Champion Aged Mare Fredaville, a daughter of Mr Jess Perry. Beer Wagon was bred by Robert A. Gentry, who consigned him to the 2015 Heritage Place
Yearling Sale. He was acquired by Rachuán Suárez Kuri DVM, who took him to Mexico to his stable El Mashta where he started his
sporting career. Beer Wagon managed to get second place in the finals of the John Deere Mexico Juvenile Challenge
as well as qualifying for the finals of the Alfredo Castro Rea Classic.
At the end of October 2016, Beer Wagon was acquired by Cuadra El Cuartel. It took time and work from his team to prepare him, but on May 21, 2017, he added to his record when he won the Mexican Association of Breeders and Horsemen
of Quarter Horses Classic. He won the fol- lowing July 2 in the finals of the Adequan Derby Challenge, which he qualified to by winning his heat. Four weeks later on July 30, he finished second in the Mexican Derby. In summary, in 14 starts he has obtained eight
