Hotwiredotcom’s big white splash on the
top of his rear end showed up especially well in photos of the handsome gelding. But even better were the finish-line photos that demonstrated Hotwiredotcom’s ability to reach the wire first. The Paint racehorse was ultra consistent at two in 2017, with five wins, a second, and four thirds in 11 starts.
Bred by Shirley Wheeler in Oklahoma, Hotwiredotcom loved to run, almost from the day he was born. “When Hotwiredotcom was a baby, he ran all the time,” Wheeler said. “Every time you would look out in the pasture with the other colts, he would be the one running.”
Wheeler and her husband, Jim, of Boynton, Oklahoma, have had many good racing Paints, including World Champions Flashthechicks and Imflashinthechicks. The Wheelers love
all their horses, but Shirley admitted that Hotwiredotcom was a bit of an ugly duckling
in his early days. She noted that Jim tried to sell him for $3,500 with no takers, which turned out to be a blessing, as Hotwiredotcom gave them another World Championship title in 2017.
Guillermo Valdivia trained Hotwiredotcom, who won his first three races at Remington Park. That included the finals for the March 25 Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1. As the 2-1 favorite, Hotwiredotcom won by a neck while piloted by Larry Payne, his jockey throughout the season.

and competed in each leg of the Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Triple Crown. In the Speedhorse Graham P&A Futurity-G1 at Remington Park, Hotwiredotcom finished 2nd to Bully Pulpit, a horse he had defeated in an earlier trial. In the
2nd leg, the Speedhorse P&A Futurity-G1 at Fair Meadows, Hotwiredotcom finished 4th and was elevated to 3rd upon a disqualification. When Hotwiredotcom got third in the Speedhorse Lone Star P&A Futurity-G1, he clinched the title of 2017 Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Triple Crown High- Point Champion. Shirley Wheeler received a trophy and belt buckle along with an additional $5,000 High-Point Champion bonus from Speedhorse.
The Wheelers sold Hotwiredotcom for $7,500 to Samuel & Elizabeth Mendoza at the 2017 Heritage Place Fall Mixed Sale. The gelding looked like he would have a bright future racing for the Mendozas, but he developed colic and died in early December, a huge loss to his owners, breeders, and the entire Paint racing world.
Hotwiredotcom won five races in 2017, including the Grade 1 Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity.
